Community description:Transgender support and discussion community
The Dreamwidth Trans Community exists to bring together people of all genders for discussion of Transgender issues. Everyone who wants to discuss gender in an open and friendly manner is welcome.

[community profile] trans is a sibling community to [livejournal.com profile] transgender on LiveJournal. This community is primarily concerned with discussing transgender issues and providing support in a trans-positive manner. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to read and post here, but please remember that we are here to help and support each other. Trans people often face invalidation and transphobic discrimination in our everyday lives, and this should be a space which avoids both.

Some other Dreamwidth communities you may wish to check out:

[community profile] f2m - Community for trans people who were assigned female at birth, and their friends and allies
[community profile] mtf - "Community for trans people who were assigned male at birth, and their friends and allies"
[community profile] genderqueer - Community "for folks whose genders lie between or outside the commonly accepted male/female binary. This can include anyone who experiences or expresses their gender in a non-traditional way". ... "for the support of gender non-conforming people, and for community discussion of gender queer issues and politics".
[community profile] non_binary - Community "for people who feel they do not have a binary gender and/or sex to discuss how we navigate our lives" ... "for people beyond the initial stages of identity questioning".
[community profile] polygender - "A community for those who don't fit at just male or female"
[community profile] androgynes - "for those who identify as androgynous, genderqueer, genderless or anything else outside the male/female dichotomy."
[community profile] transgender - "Support group for people under the trans* umbrella and their friends, family, and allies" - similar in scope to [community profile] trans, but with a different ethos.
[community profile] partners_of_tg - "an open space for partners of trans people (cis and trans) to share thoughts, be candid, ask questions, give answers, challenge each other, and vent."
[community profile] trans_advice - Advice for trans and questioning people, by trans people.
[community profile] tranny_rage - A space to vent.
[community profile] trans_latinao - "Community for Latin@ trans people"
[community profile] tguk - UK transgendered community

PLEASE NOTE: There will be no tolerance for hate speech, members or non-members attacking each other personally, pornographic material or links to pornographic material. Such posts will be removed. Trolling, also, will be dealt with at the discretion of the maintainers. If you feel strongly that your post is valid, despite being judged in one of these categories, please contact the community maintainers and we can discuss the matter.

Please keep in mind that this community is for the discussion of trans issues, so please do not post articles for sale, or advertisements for other communities/groups unless they are somehow directly connected to the community. If in doubt, ask a community maintainer or err on the side of caution and make it clear in your post why it is relevant.

Community Rules (in no particular order):
1.) Please speak from your own experiences and avoid speaking for others.
2.) Please try to keep criticism constructive.
3.) Transphobia of any kind will not be tolerated here, nor will prejudice against any generalised group of people (i.e. homophobia/heterosexism, racism, classism, sexism, etc.)
4.) Very long posts (over 40 lines) and posts which contain any images should use a cut tag or the post may be deleted.
5.) Do not change the font, size or colour of the text in your post. It makes your post more difficult to read and does not make anyone more likely to read it. Similarly, bold, italic, and underline are used to add emphasis to specific bits of text; do not use any of them on your entire post. This defeats their purpose and has the same effect as changing the size or colour of your text. Posts which violate this rule may be removed at the discretion of the maintainers.
6.) If you have a response to a specific post, respond in the comments section of that post; do not make a new post to follow up on any discussion that is less than a week old. If you feel the need to heavily revise your post, add a note that says you have done so, and why (e.g., 'Post heavily revised in response to comments', 'Post heavily revised after doing some more thinking', etc.). Similarly, don't continue conversations from a previous post in someone else's unrelated post.
7.) Please keep posts at least somewhat related to Trans issues.
8.) Posts that are greatly off-topic or that advertise irrelevant communities, blogs, products, etc. will be removed. This includes posts that are blatant advertisements thinly disguised as relevant posts, and posts which are essentially personal journal posts.
9.) Requests for donations/money are not allowed.
10.) Anything sexually explicit and/or not work safe should be behind a cut tag, with a note in front of the tag indicating why it's been cut. Links to sites, communities, etc. that are sexually explicit and/or not work safe should be indicated as such.
11.) Posts, comments, and default userpics should be kept free of explicit content.
12.) Please do not screen or disable comments on any post. Individuals who have screened the comments on their post will be reminded of this rule and given the chance to correct it. Posts with comments disabled will be removed.
13.) Don't delete stuff. Deleting posts and comments makes it awkward to work out what happened and who said what in the event of a dispute. If you need to delete a comment to make an edit to it (such as correcting a hyperlink) before replies are made, that's generally fine, but apart from that, don't delete stuff. Persistent deleters may be removed from the community. Deleting other people's comments is especially antisocial and is likely to result in removal from the community. If you are the author of a post and feel you want to delete it for privacy reasons, please contact a community maintainer first.
14.) Posts which are likely to be contentious or controversial should be posted with [controversial] prepended to the subject line. If it becomes obvious from subsequent commenting that a post is indeed controversial, or if asked by a moderator, please add it. The moderators reserve the right to remove posts which do not conform to this rule. If in doubt, err on the side of caution.
15.) When reposting or linking to stories from other sources, including links to your own blog posts, additional commentary or summarization relating to the externally sourced content and its relevance to [community profile] trans is strongly encouraged.
16.) Please try to cut newbies some slack. Terminology is often a contentious issue amongst the transgender community, and those initially seeking help with their gender issues are unlikely to be well versed in trans politics. Members should not feel they have to bite their tongue in the face of offensive statements, but please remember that we all have to start somewhere and it is important not to frighten off those seeking help when they are coming to terms with a trans identity. On the other hand, those seeking to hide behind this rule when making a tone argument will not be treated sympathetically.

In situations where we feel there is a problem, or a violation of the community rules, moderators will use discretion in dealing with it. There can be a fine line between robust debate and flaming. If someone is a "persistent offender", they are less likely to be given the benefit of the doubt.
