Problems with a wonderful occasion.

Well, one of my friends is getting married. This is awesome. More awesome is that she wants me to be one of her bridesmaids. Not so awesome is that she and the groom are arguing alot about various aspects of the wedding, one of which being me.
Basically it shakes down to this.. she wants me in her bridal party, in a dress, and he doesn't.

I hate being the cause of arguments. Especially with something like this.

The thought was scary at first, but I'm really warming up to the idea of being a bridesmaid.

I don't want to drop out of the wedding, but I feel like I might have to, just to make it easier on everyone. Though even then, it would hurt my friend to not have me there.. I can see that plain as day. But the "compromise" they had tossed around earlier is not acceptable at all: seven months from now, I am not going to wear a "feminine tuxedo" and walk with the guys down the aisle. That is bullshit, and would do the opposite of what the groom wants (that being, to keep up appearances for a traditional religious family and his Sears picture-perfect idea of a wedding.)

Ugh. Advice, anyone?
