Self medicating/HRT

Hi everyone,

I'm not too sure how many times this topic has been posted but I am in need of some guidance and possibly assistance. I am 17 years old (or young, if you're an optimist) and have been on 'the route to transition' since around this time last year. After telling my parents and allowing them some months to come to terms with it, my Dad took me to my local GP. He tried hard to get me into local counselling but the NHS faffed about and I ended up having to go private. I've had one session so far which my Dad payed for. We're trying to book another session soon but I fear it won't be able to stretch far as we aren't the most well off family in the country. I also had one psych session at my nearest hospital who concluded that I don't have any other possible mental health issues so said he would organise an appointment to CHX.

Basically my paypal currently has a balance of £60. My friend my age started self medicating at the age of 15/16 by purchasing hormones from the inhouse pharmacy website. My £60 can buy me four boxes of Progynova 2mg tablets or 280 estrofem 2mg tablets.

I'm currently awaiting my first session at charring cross but am quite certain that will be quite the while off. I intend on spending the rest of 2009 saving any possible money I get my hands on so that when I turn 18 in January I can go to a private doctor in London. Hopefully either Dr Perring or Dr Curtis.

To actually get to my point, I really can't decide if it's better to save money for a private doctor or if I should just start self medicating. I am so desperate to transition and I really cannot cope with the idea of my body getting any more masculine. Is there anyone out there who can advise me on which is a better approach?
