warning
I would like to warn people who may be undergoing surgery in the future. This is about a drug called compazine (Prochlorperazine) that is commonly used as an anti-emitic and anti-nausea drug. It may be given to you before or after surgery to prevent or alleviate nausea from the anesthesia.
I was given this drug (supposedly 10mg) directly into an IV line (not related to surgery, I was experiencing an illness and went to the ER). Within seconds I felt a shock to my entire system. I couldn't breathe and my heart was fluttering. I felt incredibly hot like I was being cooked from the inside out. Ironically, I felt even more nausea. I then began to feel a severe anxiety and panic. I couldn't stop moving around and my neck got stiff. They also injected me with benedryl, but this did not help.
Later I experienced convulsions, diarrhea and severe insomnia. Over the last 14 days I have experienced trembling, hot flashes, severe akathisia (this is truly a nightmarish feeling) and I can't sleep more than 1 hour at a time after which I wake up with shaking, heart pounding, nausea and severe anxiety. During the days I experience anxiety and trembling. I never felt like this before being given that drug and it seems there is no end in sight to this hell. I want to warn people to avoid this drug as I'm not the only one who has experienced this reaction. I have read that this can go on for months or years in some cases, but doctors don't seem to be aware of this and/or are not warning people. No one warned me. They made it seem like it was a very benign drug that would help me. If I'd just been warned I would have refused it! That's why I want to let people know about this, please be careful and just avoid this drug at all costs.
