Coming out to parents
So, I had a double session with my therapist today in which I came out to my mother about my trans issues. We walked in, I handed her the letter, and when she was done reading, she said that she was happy I told her.
It went well. Actually, it went as well as it possibly could go. She didn't understand it in the begining, but we talked about how this has been bothering me since childhood and how much depression it caused me, and the therapist gave her the background info on transgenderism and how it works and whatnot. In the end she said that she's completly clueless as to how any of this might feel, but if it's causing me this much trouble and I'd be happier as a woman, she was ready to accept it.
I'm so incredibly relieved. I haven't told her that I want to transition yet, figuring that we'll go slow, but I did give her several trans websites and she promised that she'd look through them and read to better understand everything.
We still haven't told my stepfather, I'm not sure when we'll do that, but I have faith in that he'll be accepting of it as well, as he's one of the most non-judgemental people I know.
Whew.
