initial impression of Transamerica...
I saw an early screening last night in Atlanta at the Outright movie festival. The director Duncan Tucker was there for Q&A afterwards too.
Ok - I highly recommend Transamerica when it comes out in theatres next month. According to the director this is not really trans movie although he obviously researched our world and handled our issues and characters with upmost respect - thanks in large part to Calpernia and friends. Transamerica focuses on broken relationships and self discovery. The movie is tragic, tense, lighthearted and respectfully funny in all the right places. Felicity Huffman was *amazing*.. someone mentioned Oscar on another messageboard I read.. she clearly deserves it.
Oh and I had no idea Calpernia played fiddle! She throws down during one scene!
Duncan said the film will be released in art houses and "top-20 markets" whatever that means. Hopefully it will be in or near your area. :)
