Differences between Transgender and Genderqueer

Hello. I'm new around LJ, though not new to gender issues within myself (a lifetime struggle). I have been reading with much interest, the posts in the various gender varient goups. I'm getting the hang of some the labels and terms out there- though don't be surprised if I come across wrong in my wording. (Please play nice in the sandbox-o.k.?) I'm here to learn and apply it to my own awareness of myself.

I have come to terms with myself, mostly. I have always looked in the mirror and seen myself as male. Being biofemale, this has caused the usual problems most of you here are aware of. I have also struggled with being F2M. Male inside, female bodied- it would make sense to have SRS. It's taken me 46 years to come to terms with who I am. My life is full and complete and changing my sex would get too complicated, not to mention ruin what I've worked so hard at earning. It's more important for me to have my life and I can live with my out of balance inner and outer self. My work allows me to just be me and wearing men's attire and haircut isn't even looked at by people I know and come in contact with. It's just who I am and people take me at face value. I've become an expert at ignoring my female curves.

So here's where I get confused. Could I get some kind of clarification as to the difference between Transgender and Genderqueer?

I was reading "fatchocobo's" thread titled, "I hope this is o.k.". In it I read conflicting things reguarding the differences.

"endogenous" wrote, "as a trans person and a queer i believe whole heartedly in the social construction of gender, sex, and sexual orientation."

That read, to me, that transgender means there is no question about your gender- you are either male or female. You can't be androgyness, or any other term that blurs the gender lines.

Then I read in "PiratePoet's" post, "Transgender people can be all sorts of people-- some identify as women, some as men, some as neither, some as both, some are drag kings, some are drag queens, some are androgynes, ... and on and on and on it goes. (That said, there are plenty of people who are transsexual men, transsexual women, androgynes, drag queens, drag kings, etc etc who don't identify as transgender. It's all whether someone slef-ids that way.)"

"effeteifrit" then said, "I would also say to check out genderqueer, since it's nice sometimes to have a space that isn't focused around the two major genders."

I would love some feedback on what the differences are, if any- or are both labels describing the same types?

Thanks,
Ziggy~
