T-Vox info

Posted by: ftmichael.livejournal.com

Many of you may have noticed that some pages on http://t-vox.org/ are giving database errors and not letting you see the content. The T-Vox admins are aware of the database issue and are working on it; it's proven to be a particularly obnoxious problem but they're doing their best to get it resolved ASAP. Anyone who's good with php and Mediawiki should please get in touch to help!

In the meantime, on any page that gives a database error, just click the little View Source tab to see the raw contents of the page. There's very little markup code so it should be readable, and you can use Ctrl+F to search it for whatever you're looking for. (If you have a T-Vox account and are logged in, the Edit tab will do the same thing.) Many of the pages do not have an error, fortunately, and can be accessed as normal.

The pages, including the ones with database errors, are still editable, so please do continue to contribute!

A few popular pages that are linked to from the Resources page, which people may now have trouble finding:

* Online Support
* Support groups
* FTM passing tips
* MTF passing tips
* FTM reading list
* General reading list
* Physicians by region
* Therapists by region
* List of transfeminine people
* List of transmasculine people

You can also go to All Pages to find what you're looking for.

Two of the most popular pages that folks may have issues with:

Therapists in the United States - this page links to more specific geographic areas in the US.
Swedish Sterilisation law

Posted by: dubaco.livejournal.com

In Sweden just now there is a kind of war on going against the government, Its a right wing coalition and a small section is blocking the change of a law, that in it's day was a step forward, however is now outdated. The law in Sweden DEMANDS all trans* people destroy genetic material in Sweden (so trans* people cant have kids) and have a surgical procedure to ensure sterility just to get one digit changed from a odd number to an even one... (like a National Identification Number or National Insurance number yyyymmdd****) The number signifies the legal gender of a person.

I was at a protest a while ago and thought you may like to hear about it, and the campaign

Warren's Speech against the inhumane and illegal laws on forced sterilisation in Sweden was rather amazing, i have a LOT of respect for him.. This video is not safe for work however the text is. - Juts in case people may be offended or accidentally click on it, I have opted to put the link behind a LJ Cut.

Also there is a petition that you may wish to sign should you choose to do so. and a link to a Facebook protest in London.

If you choose to sign the petition Thank You.

( Read more... )

comments

Can anyone recommend trans friendly doctor in or near Portland, Oregon who does sliding scale or low cost care for uninsured patients?

I recently moved to PDX and am out of T, overdue for bloodwork, not currently working and won't have insurance again until September. I've checked various resource lists (T-vox, the Q center resource guide, etc.) but I'm more looking for personal recommendations.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

comments

Northern Nevada Resources and a Question on Starting T Later in Life

I've never posted here before, but I feel like I've finally got something to say. A quick intro: I'm Tad. I'm 33 years old, assigned female at birth, and I've been repressing my trans issues most of my life. It was only in about March of this year that I realised that my gender dysphoria was worsening rather than getting better and that I was going to have to confront it. A lot of soul-searching and research - and negotions with my straight husband - later, I finally had to admit that I was really male and that I needed to transition. And today, I got my prescription for T. I have an appointment on Thursday to get my first injection and be taught how to do it so that I can do the rest on my own. Three months. It's crazy.

( Resources and question behind the cut )

Thanks, everyone. And mods, if there are any issues with the contents (or tags) of my post, let me know and I'll happily make any necessary changes.

x-posted to ftm

comments

Dr Stuart Lorimer, familiar to many of us from his work at the Charing Cross GIC, is setting up a private practice in addition to his NHS work. He's currently looking at Saturday lunchtime slots, starting from July.

For more details, or to book an appointment, email to enquiries@gendercare.co.uk or phone 07899 929859. I understand there will be a website, but it's not live yet.

I am not affiliated with this practice, I merely pass this on for information purposes.

comments

Looking for an endocrinologist

My therapist told me at our last meeting that I should start looking for a good endocrinologist. As far as I can tell, there's three in the Pittsburgh area, which I found via TrueSelves. T-Vox does not have any listings for Pittsburgh endos. Two of the ones in Pittsburgh are guys, so I'm banking on the third. Does anyone know of any more listings for trans-friendly endocrinologists in the Western PA area?

Thank you all ^^

~Alicia

comments

Endo Appointment referenced earlier

She was quite confused by the statement and I had to explain that I identify as both male and female at once. She became somewhat ... confrontational, I guess. I had a very difficult time explaining how I felt, because I was so thrown off by her somewhat antagonistic tone.
"Normally, this treatment is for someone who wishes to live full-time as a woman, for a period of a year or so and then have gender reassignment surgery."
"I know this," I said, "but that is not my goal. I simply want my body to match my brain. It feels incomplete to me."
"Perhaps your desire to express your femininity would be better served through cross-dressing or getting a push-up bra?"
( sigh... really? )

Does this seem at all normal to those of you who have experienced this?

(x-posted to bigender)

comments

Running Out of T

Posted by: thedapperdan.livejournal.com

Like 48 million other Americans, I have no medical insurance. Like 9.4% of Americans, I am unemployed. I lost both my job and my medical insurance about a month and a half ago... I was laid off. I had been receiving medical care from Kaiser Permanente, and I am pretty sure the next time I get to see any kind of doctor it won't be with them. I am afriad that upon making to switch (probably to MediCare or MediCal) I will have to completely restart my transition from the beginning, starting with therapy, being evaluated, diagnosed, then screened for eligibilty and readiness, walking through the Real Life Test again... I'm worried that my medical records will not carry through, or somehow won't any longer be considered valid, and that I will have to walk into that doctor's office as if I had just come out for the first time.

So I have a few questions...

Has anyone switched providers during a crucial time in their transition? I'm at 6 months on testosterone. Has anyone stopped testosterone for a period of time, and got back on it? What happened? What kind of progress did you lose and how long did it take for things to get back to normal? Here's one of the biggest thoughts on my mind: I know some guys buy T, "illegally" off the internet. I am actually starting to consider this, because really the only thing stopping me from getting T right now is having a prescription because I can't afford to see a doctor...

I'm mostly wondering how to handle this situation, and if it has happened to anyone else...

comments

Perring or Curtis? (transition in the uk)

However, after always hoping of going private this news didn't exactly thrill me.

If I can convince Dad to fork out the cash for a private specialist, I'm currently not too sure who I should go to. Initally, I wanted to go to Dr Curtis after having spoken to some of his patients. However, the internet now has quite a few negative reviews popping up about him. Many people are favouring Dr Perring. I'm really not sure where I stand and would very much appreciate some thoughts from people who have been in either of their care.

Thank you in advance.

comments

Sydney Endocrinologists

I am trying to prepare to call the therapist I was seeing last year and thence to get a referral to an endocrinologist. The two names I have right now are Prof Steinbeck at Bondi Junction (who if I remember what I was told may not be seeing any more patients) and Dr Coles at Nepean Hospital. I would really appreciate it if anyone could share their experiences or thumb-pointings with either of these doctors, or recommend to me someone else?

    She may wish to refer me to a more specialised therapist for further counselling too, although I am not so keen on that, so I will mention that the names I have listed for that are Dr. Tom Hance (RPA), Dr. Cornelius Greenway (+10 Points for the name), Dr. John Parkihson and Gaye (The Gender Centre). Any thoughts/experiences additions for that list would be welcome too.

    Cross-posted to aussie_tg, mtf and transgender (why do we include these notices?)

comments
