trans | Why the divisions?

Since I started this thing, I'll start the conversation.

I have observed that the transgender community is very much divided within itself. Transsexual vs. transgender vs. genderqueer. Older people vs. youth. MtF vs. FtM. Intersex vs. everyone else. Straight vs. queer.

We are already such an oppressed minority, that it seems absurd to divide and turn against one another. Does anybody have any ideas about why these divisions and conflicts occur, and how we can work to end them? Does anybody think that things should stay this seperate, and if so, why?
