I'm having problems with migraine headaches on low dose estrogen therapy. I looked through the community tags and didn't find any information related to this. So I'm asking for suggestions.
Right now I'm trying 0.5 mg per day of estradiol. I'm splitting the dose, morning and evening, sublingual.
I have a long history of migraine headaches. These recent headaches are also migraines. I've spoken with my doctor about them and I'm not concerned that this is a blood-clotting issue. I'm scared to death of strokes and the like, so I'm watching out for any danger signs.
One question is whether a transdermal patch would be less likely to cause headaches? It seems reasonable that keeping hormone levels as stable as possible would help. Anyone have experience with this?
The other question is just whether people with a history of migraines can be successful at estrogen therapy? It's a notorious hormone for causing migraines. Am I just out of luck?
