Hi,

I know it has been a while...hm...I think I could use some help here from my best friends! I started T for almost 3 years. I do not have many facial hair but the body hair is a bit more than average Asian. I found that my head hair is getting very very thin (I used to have very very thick hair) and I am VERY VERY worried. I used 5% minoxidil solution for almost 3 months..and I still don't see anything....

PLEASE HELP!
FYI, the thinning started last FEB, I have my hysto last Sept.

Thanks!!!! MANY THANKS!

Quick question: does anyone out there do their dose every week? I'm considering going to 0.5ml/week to smooth out some of the emotional peaks and valleys. any advice or insight?

Just wondering... for those of you on the FTM spectrum, how long did it take for your period to disappear after starting T?

Hey all! I've got a bit of a story (that gets a little ranty) and a related request.

First, the story. )

My request is this: based on the things she's worried about ("knowing" and HRT, mainly), does anybody have...
A) Any bookmarks or links to reliable studies and information on these subjects?
B) Any tips for my own Googling - what I should look for and avoid?

His mother is very science-minded and I think might believe anything that a study tells her is true. Hard facts and extensive research studies are ideal, but I've no clue where to start looking for all this. We're hoping that if we can give her enough information, enough reason for her to believe that we're serious about this, that she'll stop pestering us about it and may actually help out. Anything available on the internet is also ideal, as we don't have a lot of resources for other things, but book titles may also work, since I can pass them along as recommended reading.

Any help at all is appreciated, and thanks for sitting through all this!

Hey, all! I've never posted here before, but I feel like I've finally got something to say. A quick intro: I'm Tad. I'm 33 years old, assigned female at birth, and I've been repressing my trans issues most of my life. It was only in about March of this year that I realised that my gender dysphoria was worsening rather than getting better and that I was going to have to confront it. A lot of soul-searching and research - and negotions with my straight husband - later, I finally had to admit that I was really male and that I needed to transition. And today, I got my prescription for T. I have an appointment on Thursday to get my first injection and be taught how to do it so that I can do the rest on my own. Three months. It's crazy.

Resources and question behind the cut )

Thanks, everyone. And mods, if there are any issues with the contents (or tags) of my post, let me know and I'll happily make any necessary changes.

For those of you who are/have been on T, have you experienced any growing pains? I've got what I think is pain in my pelvis and I'm wondering if it's related to the T.

(Also, it's been almost three months!)

I am a young trans guy who is in and out of the asexual community. I started my testosterone shots about a week and a half ago *hands out celebratory cookies* and I've been wondering about some of the effects.

I have been told, and I have read extensively, that one of the effects of testosterone is a sharp boost in sex drive. I'm curious how this might affect an asexual person- creates a "normal" sex drive? Higher drive, but still no attraction to other people? No noticeable effect? I mean, I can ponder the possibilities all day, but what I'd really like is information from real trans people who identified as asexual before and/or after taking hormones about how they affected their sex drive and sexual identity. As an FTM, I've got a more personal stake in learning about testosterone, but I'm curious about the other asexual hormone experiences as well.

Originally posted this question to [livejournal.com profile] asexuality, but got a limited response (mostly pre-T trans guys with the same question), so trying here to see what y'all have to say on the matter.

I just had a curious thought. I myself identify as female, but I have a question for the guys here. When taking T over an extended period of time (years or more), is male-pattern baldness a common occurrence? I was mostly just curious.

So I have been reading about lots of things in relation to gender transition lately, and one of the things which I have read about is hormone therapy since that is what causes the most physical changes towards making one look like a guy (or girl for MtF) and whatnot. However, as someone who dates women but has tried dating men in the past, one of the things that I like a lot more about women than men is their odour. Women have a gentle and sweet odour, whereas men have a much more harsh and musky odour.

So this raises a question which may seem weird to some people and I feel slightly silly asking it, but here it goes anyway.... For those of you who have started hormones and prefer a member of the opposite sex than your target gender for a partner, are you at all repulsed by your new odour? I know that for the most part we rarely smell ourselves since we're around ourselves all the time and our noses adjust, but in the event that you smell something from yourself in an area you normally are not near, does it repulse you at all, do you like your new odour or something else?

Hi everyone.

I have a couple of questions about FtM changes whilst on T.

Firstly my forearms, i know with muscle growth they will get a bit bigger but will having a small bone structure limit that?

Secondly im 5ft 2, someone somewhere did mention that if your growth plates arent fused yet you might gain a bit of height from taking T. Im not sure if thats correct and really im ok with my height but i've heard guys get a lot of stick when they are short. I was wondering if anyones had that problem and how they delt with it?

Finally my voice. It is HIGH, im 19 but if i get someone ringing the house (from like a bank maybe) and i answer they always ask me to put my 'mummy or daddy on the phone' its embarrasing. I will never be able to pass with this voice and im worried when it breaks it will still be high. Anybody else in this situation? any tips to get it lower maybe?

Thanks =]

Sorry to post again so soon and always asking questions on here.  I keep searching everywhere and I cannot find any concrete answers to this because it's so specific.

If I were to go on T, and take some sort of growth hormone at the same time, could I actually become taller?  I wonder this because, from what I understand (correct me if I'm wrong), T basically confuses your body into thinking you are going through puberty again in a way, so maybe it would cause your body to be receptive to growth hormones again even if you are past the age when you would be (which I am, I am 26)...

This is something that's really been bothering/depressing me a lot.  I hate being short and very badly regret not doing anything about it when I still could have, such as going on T and/or growth hormones when I was younger.  I'm 5'4", and while some men are this short...it's really rare and I really do not like it at all.  I'm horridly self conscious about it.

Failing this, is there any way I could compensate for being short through clothing that is acceptable for men to wear?  I can't exactly wear high heels or something.

My mother is still hounding me about this.  Her latest claim is that me wanting to become physically (that's all I want, physically) male is like asking her to kill off her daughter because I will be a completely different person once I start taking hormones.  This confused me.  I asked her to explain and she said she keeps researching and reading and hearing horror stories of FtMs becoming aggressive short-tempered monsters on T.

What is up with this?  My research has shown none of this.  I won't really become a different person, will I?  I mean, it would just be like going through puberty again, wouldn't it?  I'd be weird for awhile and then my body would get used to it, right?  I am a sensitive, emotional person, and T isn't magically going to suck all of the emotions out of me other than 'RAWR HULK SMASH'.  I don't understand.

I give her examples of many many many sensitive/'metrosexual' men, show her the andogynous 'emo/goth' look I am aiming for with the guys that look like girls, and she dismisses them all.  Which brings me to my other subject I want to ask about.  I am completely fine with my personality.  I would not mind being seen as a 'girly' guy, at all.  In fact, I would prefer it.  My gender identity is not completely male.  As a male, I probably would be the reverse of a tomboy.  I wouldn't really care if, after I've fully transitioned, people read me as female on occasion because of long hair or whatever.

It's my physical self I'm unhappy with.  I don't know how to explain this to anyone.  Wanting to change your GENDER is apparently a million times easier to convey to someone than wanting to change your SEX.  There is a huge difference for me, and it's my SEX I want to change.  My gender identity is androgynous, but my sexual identity is male.  How do I explain this to someone?

hmmmm.

regarding ftms, i've heard only ONE response to the question, "how much has your voice changed?" since i only know one person who is post-T.
he says his voice has changed A LOT compared to before T.

is the degree of voice-change different for everyone?

and is there any way to predict how much your voice will change?
like... the higher your voice is pre-T, the deeper it will be post-T, or is that completely irrelevant?

i'm also looking for input from you guys personally, regarding your own voices!

I don't know how to search through the tags. If anyone could tell me how, that'd be awesome.

That's not relevant to this post though.

I actually had a question.

Does the speed of how a person went through puberty as their biological gender reflect the speed that they will go through changes once they alter their gender, either through estrogen or testosterone?

I've been looking around on websites, trying to find a resource that can be of some help to me but I don't have any luck.
Maybe I'm not trying hard enough.  I would also call the doctor myself but I'm deaf, so that's an issue.

Let me ask you all something...

I've been on T now a bit more than 10 months. I seem to be passing very consistently now even when I look in the mirror and see omg hair that needs cutting, making me look feminine, still people are seeing a man. Everyone calls me sir. No one seems to think twice about it. I'm not sure if my voice is screwing it up, but I do worry a bit. And that's the question, does the worry go away eventually? I'm very nervous like at any moment people are going to be seeing me as female, thinking they initially made a mistake. That happened to me once in august and I've been *really* anxious about it ever since. I was always anxious about it, but that incident just made it worse. So, if it went away for you, how long did it take? Are you still experiencing it? Is it less than it was in the past? I'm really wondering because it's probably the most bothersome thing for me right now and it's all in my own mind.

Asking out of curiosity.

1. Did you notice any improvement with your concentration and memory after being on hormones for a while?

2. How long did it take you to notice any physical changes?

3. Did your sleep patterns change? If so, how has it changed?
