I am wondering if there are any MTF out there who came to the 'change' without the aid of Hormonal Therapy.
I have only Spirolactone (5-1/2 months) , but that's all it took to start my journey.
And by what I have read, an accelerated journey. A journey which started upon waking from a near coma in the hospital 1st week of October, 3 months ago.
This Spirolactone was given to me to save my life, and for posterity's sake, the story is in my journal.
It would be a great comfort to hear of like experiences, for naturally estrogenated men and/or accelerated transformation stories.

T-Blockers

Errmm, Hi. Been a while hasn't it! I'm actually probablyy not remembered but hi anyway! Usual lurker, occasional poster usually when I have a query!

For those that do know me, things are going great! Been on Progynova since January last year, got a tidy A-cup which I can make look like a C-cup with a padded bra. Woot, no more full time breastfoms. Vocal coaching going well, I'm in the female range, though surgery maybe need and has been recommended by the powers that be, because I have a tendency to snap back when I'm stressed or hit the flow!

Why am I here again, after all this time? Well, after some thoughts about how I want my transition to go they have decided to start giving me a t-blocker. On Wednesday I got my first Zoladex implant as this seemed to be the best course for my body chemistry. I'm also taking C-A for what they call testostorone flair ups that usually happens in the first two weeks of the implant.

I know it's only been three days but I was wondering if I should be getting any side effects this soon. I ask becuase my facial hair has taken a jump forward in growth speed, I'm consistently tired and also I seem to be more thirsty then usual! Also, my breasts have felt firmer and looked bigger! But it's only been three days, surely I shouldn't see anything yet!

Love to get the feedback!

For the record, I'm in the UK!

Hi !

In order to try to get a legal change of my first name and gender (which was rejected in court on the arguments that, as I hadn't had surgery, I didn't show signs of "irreversible changes" — it's basically the indication for legal changes in France —, but for which I am making an appeal), I am looking for documents (which could be presented in front of a judge, so no blogs or trans websites I guess :( ) attesting that hormonal therapy for trans women give "irreversible" changes. (Particularly, what would be wonderful would be "official" documents (e.g., scientifical articles) saying there are risks of permanent sterility with either or both of cyproterone acetate and estrogen, even if you stop it – the judges seem to like their trans people to be sterile. Alarming articles written by authority doctors saying trans women should be very cautious before starting hormones because it causes irreversible changes would be good too.).

(Yes, I know, there is google, but finding relevant e.g. scientifical articles is not obvious as many are not available for free or are not so easy to search)

Thanks, and I hope it's not too much off-topic :)

Fat!!

OK, I may be making an incorrect statement here but from what I can remember estrogen redistributes fat to help create breasts. It also moves it to the face and bottom. If I'm correct.

Now, based on this information the fact I haven't lost weight but have been told on numerous occasion I have got slimmer, would be make that statement correct.

The trouble I have is I am underweight. Always have been. My irregular dietary habits and gluten intolerance doesn't help. This has lead me to believe I do not have enough resources for the hormones to their job. This probably explains why I feel that my breasts aren't forming any more. they have stopped growing despite an increase in my hormone dosage.

So, I'm thinking a change of diet. To one more regular and to one with more helpful fats! The problem with this is knowing what fats to include in my new diet.

Any ideas?

Two weeks ago I was told that I could increase my hormone (estrogen) regime from 2mg daily to 4mg. I was also informed that because my T level was already on the low side of average that they wouldn't be considering a T-blocker until they see how the increase has affected me at my next appointment. They told me this because I asked.

Anyway, quickly became apparent that the increase screwed around with my already fragile hold on my emotional state when I took them in the morning, so I started taking them in the evening.

This leads me to ask, is there a good time or bad time of day to take your hormones?

I was told that I could take them spread out over the day, 2mg in the morning and 2mg in the evening but I'm no good at consistency and I know I'll either OD or forget. I was told there was no risks takng the 4mg all at once so that is what I have been doing.

And this leads me on to what I believe may be a result of the increase. I sure hope so because I can't relate it to anything else.

The past week has been strange. I have all the symptons of a depressed like state yet I feel no depression. I do not want leave my flat, nor my bed for that matter. I don't think I have had a proper meal in days and certainly not a consistent meal structure any way. Normally, I see eating as an inconvience of my time. A necessity of survival and a continuation of living. But lately even that instinct of having to eat to survive has dwindled. I feel no hunger neither. (I may have blogged about that on my personal page at some point)
Also things feel shifted slightly, out of phase with reality. Things seem sharper, brighter and a little unreal. Things feel intangible to the touch sometimes. Sounds sound louder, I have had to remove batteries from the clocks in all the rooms because the ticking was driving me mad. Even my heart and my breathing feel loud! I know I have read two books too, because they sit at the side of my bed but I don't remember doing so.

I feel like I should be worried by it all but to be honest, I feel care free. I feel weightless and liberated from mortal boundries. And that too should concern me.

I really don't know what to make of it all.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Nick Gorton Medical Therapy etc for transgender men book.

It's accessible to a general audience, but it's also VERY useful to doctors.

Is there ANYTHING like this available for MtF Medical professionals? I'm seeing a new NP on the 9th and if I can give her both then it'd be great. She supposedly already sees trans patients, but I'm going to try and get them to start doing hormone replacement therapy for trans folks.

Had my appointment yesterday at the CX Gender Clinic.....

I think that about sums up how I'm feeling really.

Been approved for oestrogen treatment. Going to be referred for speech therapy too.
Also going to push for Laser hair removal with my local PCT as the facial hair issues is causing me to self harm

Full news on my personal LJ if you're interested!!

This may be old knowledge, but I didn't know about it so some others might not too. I don't know if this is country-wide - it may just be in England, but if your PCT is one of those annoying ones that doesn't do 3 month prescriptions for HRT (do they think they're going to grow back?), and you're sick of the rigmarole of having to handle repeat prescriptions, even if your pharmacy handles them, read on.

My GP put me on something called Repeat Dispensing today. Basically, they write out a year's supply of repeat prescriptions at once, but time-delayed, and then give them all to you at once. You then take them to the pharmacy and they dispense the first one as normal, and keep the rest on file.

28 (or however long yours lasts) days later, you go back into the pharmacy and ask for the next one. They give you the drugs there and then, with no need to contact you GP to get the repeat signed off.

When your year's supply runs out, go and see you GP again and they'll give you another 12 months worth.

Thought this might be useful info.

So, I have a question about testosterone vs. estrogen.

I went to the doctor on Friday as a walk-in patient and I explained my situation and gave him my letter from my psychologist. His original plan of action was to put me on a testosterone blocker for a couple of months and then introduce estrogen, however I told him I'm moving to Vancouver at the end of the month when he told me that the T-blocker would require numerous blood tests. He decided that because I'm going to be leaving it'd be pointless to do blood work now and then have to do it all over again when I get there as they won't have been there from the beginning and be as knowledgeable about my history, so he put me on .625 milligrams of estrogen for the first two weeks at one tablet a day, and then after the two weeks I begin taking two tablets, and after a couple of months I'm to find a doctor in Vancouver and start doing the t-blocker.

So my questions are these: Has anyone else done this, and will the testosterone in my system severely limit the effects of the estrogen while I'm on them pre-blocker, or will the estrogen basically just do its thing around the testosterone?

I can feel the laser-scopes focusing upon my avatar as I type this. Hold your fire please, hold your fire! :o I'm not trying to be controversial nor test your patience. I genuinely want your honest opinions. Many internet websites cover the biological effects of hormones (the "what's" and "how's"), but few if any discuss the "why's".

So... if you can spare the time, will you share with me the reasons why you are taking them and what made you decide to start?

Note: I am not seeking a hormone regimen at this time.

WOW!

Anyone hear about a once a month estrogen delivery system?
My doctor says that it a sub dermal "bead" that time-releases over 30 days.
I think I'm in hormonal lust!

I'm (still) at the outset of my transitioning, and I was unclear as to whether or not spironolactone and estrogen show up on a standard drug test for employment. I was laid off in April and stopped taking the spiro a couple of weeks ago when I realized it might mess up my chances at a job if it shows up. I would assume that they don't, since the tests are meant to look for the illegal kind of drugs, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thank you!
[identity profile] jenaflynn.livejournal.com
I know that we're all beautiful and unique (like snowflakes!) when it comes to hormones. That being said, after being on 200mg of spiro (100 in the am, 50 for lunch, 50 for dinner) for about 6 months now, my Testosterone levels are still a bit out of whack....

Total (aka serum) Testosterone level: 870 (6 months ago it was ~850, one year ago it was ~1000)
Free Testosterone: 27.3 (Same thing 6 months ago, and a year ago)
Estradiol ~30

I'm taking Estrasorb (two packets x once per day), Avodart (.5mg daily), and 200mg of spiro, and I am noticing changes. But the end result is that my T is still out of whack, and my E is too low. My doctor has considered moving me to the patch, saying that the more consistent dose levels would probably do me more good than the current Estrasorb that my previous doctor assigned me. I know that my hormone routine has been out of whack since the start... I saw Ettner at first, and he put me on the estrasorb, and seemed content to leave me on it.

So, my question really is.. Anyone else battled higher T levels after months of taking Spiro? What did your Doc/Endoc do the bring them down? Up your E? Up your Anti-androgens? Switch brands? (To what, and how much?) I trust me doctor to make the correct decisions (She is actually trans herself) but I'm always curious to hear what others have done.

Hi guys, going to ask a bit of a dumb question for my first post!

Can Androcur and/or Progynova be taken sublingualy?

Thanks!

My therapist is finally going to give me the letter to give to my doctor but she has no idea what to write in it. I remember there are key words and phrases that need to be in there and have had letters saved in the past just for this occassion but have no idea where they disappeared to.

Any help would be appreciative. She needs this email sent tonight or tomorrow.

Also to add to this.. Has anyone had experience with going from self medicating to doing it legally? Should I tell my doc I am already on meds and have been medicating since 8-22? What if he gets upset with me? I am concerned that he will drop my dosages and I have been there when I was running out of meds. Dropping down my dosages = hell. Also what are the chances I can talk him into putting me on injectables? I have issues taking pills and would especially like the convenience of only having to inject once a week vs putting pills under my tongue for 30 minutes twice a day (especially since i will be moving in with 2 guys and might not get the privacy i need during those two 30 minute sessions.

I've been on hormones a while now (2.5 years) and I've feminized but, uh, more would be nice. I brought this up with my doctor, she said the first thing we should test is the testosterone levels. did that, got the results.

"testosterone ng/ml: .90"

the doctor wrote in in a note on the results of the lab test "(.14 to .90) for normal female"

it seems kind of odd to me that my results are the exact cutoff. for those familiar, are those the numbers normally given?

would driving my testosterone levels down further be likely to help? if so, would increasing the spiro help? I'm on 200mg/day now.
[identity profile] opiumprincess.livejournal.com
I was on the following:

200mg spiro
2.5mg premarin

from everything I've read and almost all TS people I've talked to, 5mg of premarin is more typical. I talked to my doctor about upping the premarin. she seemed reluctant. so I brought up estradiol, hoping she'd offer a typical dosage of that-- which is 6 to 8mg, from everything I've read and heard from other TS patients. she wants me on 2mg of estradiol.

I do like this doctor despite this, so I'd rather not change, but I'm still incredibly frustrated. she basically insists that as long as the anti-androgens are high enough (... since when is 200mg of spiro a high dosage?) that higher dosages of estrogens really don't offer an additional benefit and only bring about an increased risk.

the risks are infinitesimal. I honestly don't give a damn if 5mg of premarin instead of 2.5 had one in 10,000 women experience some sort of complication if it'll help me pass.

what hormone dosages are you on? do you think what she's saying is accurate?
