Hi !

In order to try to get a legal change of my first name and gender (which was rejected in court on the arguments that, as I hadn't had surgery, I didn't show signs of "irreversible changes" — it's basically the indication for legal changes in France —, but for which I am making an appeal), I am looking for documents (which could be presented in front of a judge, so no blogs or trans websites I guess :( ) attesting that hormonal therapy for trans women give "irreversible" changes. (Particularly, what would be wonderful would be "official" documents (e.g., scientifical articles) saying there are risks of permanent sterility with either or both of cyproterone acetate and estrogen, even if you stop it – the judges seem to like their trans people to be sterile. Alarming articles written by authority doctors saying trans women should be very cautious before starting hormones because it causes irreversible changes would be good too.).

(Yes, I know, there is google, but finding relevant e.g. scientifical articles is not obvious as many are not available for free or are not so easy to search)

Thanks, and I hope it's not too much off-topic :)

Hey all - I have a quick question about erections.

( Cut for genital talk )
Thanks for reading!

Errmmm, hello. Me again. Sorry...

I feel kinda guilty about taking up so much of the journal space but you have been so helpful over the years I can't help it!

Another question, probably a daft one really. I have suddenly become paranoid that wearing a bra with the breastforms will restrict any natural growth whilst on the Progynova!! Will it have an effect on the growth or am I being silly?

Thank you again.

Hey I was wondering if anyone's ever heard of MtF hormones or hormones in general actually making mood disorders worse or triggering them -so bringing one on when there wasn't one before-.  I ask because I'm about 9 months in on hormones & just got enough of a diagnosis for bipolar to be put on meds.  I've dealt with things like depression & anxiety before, but they eased off in the first couple of months with hormones -you know the actual or psychosomatic effects of increased wellbeing & decreased anxiety type stuff-, I was actually looking to maybe go med free in a year or two if things got good enough.  But yeah any thoughts would be welcome, I figured asking around a bit might be useful on top of talking to the doc.

So I had posted a few times on here about hair before. I started losing my hair fairly young, because I guess my genetics are bad for that, and I had asked previously if hair re-growth was possible on HRT. Anyway, I've seen a lot of regrowth in spots that previously had no hair. My hair issues were just basically severe recession of the hairline. Now the huge widow's peak formed by it it sloooowly beginning to fill in. Anyway, my question is, when a spot is bald, is it completely bald, or are there often little hairs left? Because the entire areas on both sides with patches have lots of the little fuzzy hair, and when the filling in that DID occur occurred, they were preceeded by the same little hairs that eventually turned in to the stronger hair that we know and love. I just want to know if I should take these fuzzy little hairs as a positive sign, or don't get my hops up too high. I'm so ridiculously sick of wigs, it's impossible to describe.

Hi,

I have a question concerning the impact of estrogen on weight, but also on fat distribution.

Hormone/birth-control question

Like a lot of MtF women, I'm annoyed that hormone therapy has left my breasts at a development stage common to young cissexed teenaged girls. In my case, there was still tenderness, and thus I presume growth, right up until I had to go off hormones for genital surgery. Now, nothing. I want to take it the its conclusion. I'm not concerned about breast size as much as I am about having breasts that look like those that belong to a cissexed adult.

I have an idea. Many cissexed women report breast development while on hormonal birth control - including (especially?) women whose breasts didn't develop much in the first place. Hormonal birth control works by biochemically simulating pregnancy, and their breast development is in keeping with this, often catching them up through any tanner stages they've missed - it often begins after six months, and runs for six months, like it would during pregnancy.

So I'm thinknig of taking birth control. Something high in progesterone, like Yasmin. For about a year.

Has anyone eles done this? Any advice?

Yes, I'm here asking a series of transitioning questions for the group tonight.

1. How many of you had facial feminization surgery? Were you satisfied with the results of your appearance/passing?

2. Did you find laser or eletrolysis cheaper? How much per session/hour did you typically pay?

3. A couple of people have mentioned to me before that when they got on estrogen/spiro they experienced hair growth on the head, but I've read article after article saying that although it ceases male pattern baldness, it does not allow new regrowth. How many other folks experienced regrowth?

This is for the folks doing female HRT.

I've been on spiro and estradiol for 10 months and my doctor said I could think about prometrium to increase breast growth. He mentioned cycling it for 10 days per month. He seems to have some like, issues with explaining things to me, so I was wondering if anyone here could give me info (whether from personal experience or research) about reasons to take and not to take prometrium.

What are the emotional, physical effects?

Thanks a lot, yall.

Hey all. I have some questions about HRT. I'm currently only out to my mother and a few choice friends, but I know that I want to transition. The only problem is that my father who has the money in my family is putting me through college, as my parents are separated.

I've heard so much good about being on estrogen like clearing acne, redistributing body fat, softer skin, and building of breast tissue. But I've also heard a lot of scary stories about blood clots and other problems with certain products.

My plan was to start premarin on my own at small doses until I'm done with college at which time I'd be more willing to talk to my father. What do you all think?

Hey there,
My therapist is encouraging me to do research on hormone replacement therapy as a way of educating myself in the various options out there for transitioning and to also gain some understanding of the subject so I can have an informed take on it.

Questions:

1. Are there any good websites with information on the various types of hormone treatments? (I am Male to Female, pre-everything)

2. If I am losing my hair because of male pattern baldness and herdity, would hormone therapy promote hair growth or supress the testostorone that promotes male hair loss?

3. Knowing that different people react differently to hormone treatment, what are some of the side effects or potential hazards?

4. What about breast development? Would hormones develop signficantly large breasts? Can development be adjusted or monitored in some way?

5. What happens to the male genitalia when on hormone replacement therapy?

Thanks, David (Sara)

Ooookay.

I don't know how to search through the tags. If anyone could tell me how, that'd be awesome.

That's not relevant to this post though.

I actually had a question.

Does the speed of how a person went through puberty as their biological gender reflect the speed that they will go through changes once they alter their gender, either through estrogen or testosterone?

X-posted to ftm.

Well, apparently testosterone goes down over time, and the last test I had was a month after I went on HRT. I just had another test, and it turns out my testosterone level is 45, which isn’t horrible. It’s in the female zone, but on the upper edge of the curve.

I've been on this dosage since May 2007 and I'm 39 years old. So, with 200mg of spiro and 4mg of estradiol, I’m not sure why I haven’t been more feminized. Any ideas? I’ve asked my doctor as well, and should have a response tomorrow.

I guess my age is killing my ability to change...

This is a bit of an odd question... I've been making huge strides in self-acceptance and I'm looking seriously at HRT now -- I'm curious:

I have piercings through both nipples... between the tenderness associated with HRT and... geometrical changes.. do I have anything to worry about? Should I take them out before starting HRT?

I figure "no," but I thought it was better safe to ask.

Ouch

I had to go of my hormones for about 3 weeks, and I was a wreck.  My Neuro wanted to have me off to see if a symptom of my MS was related to hormones.  Thank gawd it didn't.  I have to say being off the estrogen made me feel bitchy, and hot flashes were ugly.

Well I am back on and after a week I am feeling soreness in my breasts.  I am thinking that the restart kicked on the changes.  Have any of you had this experience?  Also I noticed today that I was filling in my bra a bit more.

This is what my Counsellor asked me yesterday...asked me firstly if I could be a straight woman...and I said I couldn't...even though I did briefly go through a phase of thinking I could be bi-..I don't think it's likely I could now..unless I met a guy who was in some way arty or strongly alternative....hhhmmmm....

Limerick is small..so what is it like going from heterosexual male to lesbian?

Asked me also if it's absolutely certain that h.r.t. causes impotence/infertility..and it is yes?

Mum offered me use of a few old trousers monday!..she is nearing acceptance!

This is strange.
I'm 9 months into transition and sitting at the computer I notice that my body seem to "settle" differently.
Anyone have this sort of experience?
[identity profile] shelleybear.livejournal.com
Previously listed developments in one place.
1)Boobs pretty much obvious and nipples expanding. Mostly warm to hot and sore to the touch.
2)Fatty tissue shift to thighs and ass with what is probably cellulite, cottage cheese, whatever you want to call it.
3)Shift in lower center of gravity (see 2).
4)Face androgynous to female (not really male any longer).
5)Body hair on arms and legs thinned out and lighter. Approaching almost invisible.
6)Skin more translucent. Might I even say prettier.
7)(the biggie) Hair is growing back on top of head and forward to forehead (WOOHOO!).

Good night, and good luck.

I thought initially I would post this in "mtf" because, well I am mtf and so most of my transition questions are specific to that community, but then amusingly I realized that transguys may also have a bit of useful advice here, who knew!

So the deal is that I just started the E about a month ago and I am on a relatively low dose so I wasn't expecting much in the way of development, well as luck would have it, I have had quite a bit (This almost puts me in tears of joy whenever I look at them). So much so that when I was getting dresses this morning I realizedI can't wear my skinny thermal top because, well you can tell I have breasts. Now I am not "full-time" because I am a graduate student and going full time in the middle of a semester is awkward especially when I am teaching, so I am still presenting as male most of the day. I do only wear girls clothing (mostly very andro stuff like thermal Ts), but I try to be as cute as possible just for my mental health. In fact, my collection of old male clothes is pretty empty so I really don't have anything loose and ugly like I used to.

The problem of course, I need to hide these puppies for another 4 months or so (as they get bigger hopefully :)) without hurting their development. Has anyone have any experience with this? Any suggestions. I am a pretty skinny person so I can't play it off as pec's and no one would believe the little emo kid that is me to be working out.

To sum up. Boobies good! Boobies now, unexpected! Help!

Thanks dolls!

~Ashley
