[identity profile] etana.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] trans
Hi, I'm new here, I'm an research student at Bowling Green State University and a feminist queer hippie dyke looking to do something positive with my pathetic human development/family studies degree.....and I'm hoping some trans folk who are aging...ie. 50+ can help me .........

I'm beginning a qualitative research project - so to speak - on "what defines successful aging for transgender women". There is a model "successful aging" but I propose that it's rather argumentative, defined by white, heterosexual, male experiences and negate the oppression and marginalization of women, minorities, and trans people. Because my focus is on trans women (this time around) I need to research transwomen who are older (be proud! it's a GOOD thing!) on their experiences, their health, etc. - if anyone is interested, you would be as confidentially kept as you need to be, the interviews could be done via phone or if you live in Ohio, I may be able to come and visit with you and show you my work thus far (so you know I'm not making this up). My deadline for an abstract to the Ohio Assoc. of Gerentology Ed. is Jan.17 so I have to have my research participants/interviewees lined up by the end of December.

For more details, please feel free to email me: jkbeal@bgnet.bgsu.edu and pass this along to someone else you may think would be interested. My hope is to publish the findings in academia (quite the possibility) and begin changing the tide of trans people to make lifepsan experiences more positive.

Sorry for the blurb.
I just need some help to get this done.
So, if you're 50+ or know someone who is and who identifies as trans MTF or gender ambiguous (recently or for quite a while) please send my info their way. Or, contact me.
Or if YOU would like to get involved.
Thanks!
