Hey all,
I rarely post on this community but I wanted to run these workshop
proposals by folks. Anyone interested in presenting with me on either
of these? Thoughts on them? ...

Changing Hearts, Changing Minds: Building Power, Resiliency, and Education through Personal Narratives..

We all know how powerful a personal story can be in providing us with learning opportunities that teach our hearts as well as our minds. Personal narratives have historically been a key focal point in any social movement in helping to progress civil rights and build community understanding and celebration of the human experience. This workshop will focus on developing a personal narrative and review a variety of methods of sharing a narrative. Professionals working with trans-clients will also want to attend to learn about ways of supporting transpeople’s empowerment through personal narratives. Content will include:

Constructing a Narrative: What is effective? Who is your Audience. What are you trying to convey. Moving but not defeating. Use of Emotion (Anger, Sadness, Humor, and Joy).

Sharing Your Narratives:
Creative Non-Fiction, Blogs/Website, Zines, Autobiographical Novels, Journal/Magazine , Academic research, and Visual + Performing Arts .

Skills building: Public Speaking, Education and Outreach Coordination, Submission techniques, A Brief Overview of Grant Writing, Finding Community Organizations to support your work.

Finding Solidarity: A forum on building solidarity within the Trans-movment across identities, experiences, and belief systems.
The first half of the workshops will focus heavily on breaking down barriers within the trans-movement. It will seek to create a dialogue and mapping of the current ‘divisions’ within the trans community and ‘modern’ social movements as a whole. Examining the historical roots of these divisions and the complexities of ‘identity politics’ as a whole.

The second half of the workshop will be a solution oriented peer-led ‘think-tank’ to dismantling and overcoming internalized oppression and creating a more broad-based, inclusive, and cohesive trans-moment. Emphasis will particularly be placed on social class, racial and ethnic identities and communities, educational experience, Transman / Transwoman’s communities, Urban and Rural experiences, and Ideological approaches to ‘gender transition’/ ‘gender identity’ and ‘gender politics’.
