Thanks for the advice!
Aug. 31st, 2006 11:45 amOk folks, Thank you so much for the helpful replies. I'll reply inidividually when I have a bit more time.
The mentoring orientation was good and informative. They went into a whole thing about being very aware if you see or hear about any discrimination or harassment- race, sex, sexual orientation, etc. So it was nice to see that at least a good number of people at the school care about things like that.
For the first class and during the first couple weeks of school (a few times as we want to), we are supposed to wear the t-shirts that they gave us that say "Ask me about the freshman seminar." In really big red letters on white shirt. So that gets rid of having to decide what to wear to make a first impression with the class. :)
I almost decided to introduce myself to everyone with a gender neutral guy name I've been thinking about- Lee, but then decided against it, as if I decide that's not the name I want then I'd just have to change anyway, so for now I'll stick with my girl name. That's all the news for now.
Also, I can't remember what community I read it on initially, but a bit over a week ago I went to the barber for the first time to get a decently short and decently masculine haircut. I was a bit nervous going in there, but kept in mind the advice I read that I should just go in there confidently and tell them what I wanted. That I had every right as much to be there as anyone else. So whoever it was that said that- Thank you so much! The haircut is great and feels so much more like "me".
