Car insurance

transMy partner's car died yesterday (RIP) and we need a vehicle. My mother has a car that is supposed to be mine, but she won't let me take it, becuase she's a bitch. She will let me take it if I fix it (it needs a new starter) and take out a full coverage insurance policy covering the car in my name.
I have done a name change and full license change. I live in Oregon if it matters.
I was wondering if Insurance companies will do a full background check to determine gender. I'm female everywhere but my birth cert, and I'm really broke, so not being seen as a guy really matters. Has anyone had experience with being in the post legal changes, presurgery legal limbo and taking out a new insurance policy?
