in response to Day of Silence
Apr. 17th, 2007 10:22 pmwho am I? today, I am self-expression. I stand for the darkness and for the light, and for the colors I can only dream of. I represent the thoughts and feelings that don't always translate to words.
but what I am also is compassion and community and communication. I have seen and felt the ache of the left unsaid, and I don't want to honor it. silence is as much a weapon as a spat slur.
so today I call for disarmament. I ask, in place, to complete some small act of sharing. to reveal a secret, to heal a broken friendship, or to have a conversation with a stranger (and the list goes on). instead of sitting down in solitude with the known hurt of the past, instead of trying to show you a wound that cannot be understood, I am finding new words today.
