There is a situation that has arisen in Chattanooga recently. A transman named Shawn has been the victim of harrassment (including death threats) & physical beatings from a neighbor.
Finally, after a physical assault from the neighbor on March 6, he filed a report with the Chattanooga Police Department. The officer who responded said "I don't believe in that lifestyle" and recounted his own experiences when he was in the service and he reportedly said "I would beat up faggots too." The officer apparently told Shawn "you're a freak, you deserve it."
He also talked to the Chattanooga office of TBI on Friday, March 30. The woman there said "If you're flaunting it, that would make
anybody with children uncomfortable."
Tennessee Valley Pride is having a vigil in support of Shawn this Saturday in the event that anyone in the area may want to join us. I've attached a press release put out by the Tennessee Transgender Political Coalition (TTPC).
