Letter question
Jun. 20th, 2007 09:25 amI'm writing a letter (to be signed by my therapist) to bring to the DMV requesting the "M" be changed to "F" on my license. I have my name-change hearing next week, but my last appointment before then is this afternoon.
I know the rules vary by state - but those of you that have used similar letters, what did yours say?

Re: Erin XXXX XXXXX (legal name: Ethan XXXXXXX XXXXX)
DOB: XXXXX XX, XXXX
SSN: XXX-XX-XXXX
I am writing on behalf of Erin who was assigned male at birth. Erin’s current gender identity is female and Erin prefers feminine pronouns. She has been receiving therapy to explore her gender identity here at XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX since September 2005, and has been working with me since January 9, 2007.
Erin has been undergoing medical treatment to change her sex from male to female since June 23, 2006. An important part of this long process is living as the correct gender (female) for a year prior to final surgery. Having identification that reflects the correct gender is vital to both the process and more importantly, to her safety.
I request on Erin’s behalf that the sex designator on her license be changed from “M” to “F”.
Sincerely,
XXXX XXXXX, LICSW
