It's been a year since my name was legally changed, but there's a few documents I've kind of neglected to update.
One of which is my high school transcript. I've been looking for work for a while now, and wondering what becomes of all the applications I submit. I got to thinking about it, and realized, "Hey... maybe they actually bother to see if I went to high school, but when they look for me, they don't find my name!" Crap.
So, I called up my former school district and asked them what I needed to do to change the name on my transcript as well as any other records they have. I was told to call the school. So I call the school, and the lady I talked to was obviously annoyed with having to deal with this. Nevertheless, she called some people (at the school district, no less... ugh, bureaucracy), and yesterday she finally got back to me. She said that my transcript was actually on microfiche (microfiche? do people actually still use that?) and that it couldn't be changed. What they could do would be to print off a copy of my old transcript, and then attach a note to it along with copies of my name change documents.
I got to thinking about this, and realized it wouldn't really do much other than link me to my old name. Which I'm kind of trying to avoid. And even then, could they even search for my new name, or would any indices used for searching still contain my old name? I told her I'd call her back.
Has anyone ever tried to change a high school transcript before? How did it go for you? Any advice?
