silent T party
Oct. 4th, 2007 12:52 amsoulforce Q (the rockin' youth activist group that brought the world equality ride, right to serve, right to marry, and seven straight nights campaigns) has a practical (and fun?) way to speak out and educate others about the importance of EVERYONE in the LGBTQ... spectrum being included in ENDA.
hold a "SILENT T PARTY."
Our collective immediate response to ENDA will define the character of the LGBT movement in America for future generations... The "T" has been the strongest, had it the roughest, and stood the proudest all along. What kind of family sells its kids out in the moment of greatest need?
SILENT T PARTY is an opportunity for people of all genders and sexualities to stand together as one proud and whole community at a time when we're expected to stand apart.
SILENT T PARTY is an opportunity to raise trans/gender awareness in your community and let Congress and the nation know we are not "separate but equal" when our humanity and dignity are on the line.
SILENT T PARTY is an opportunity to have FUN! We should celebrate our whole community and lift it up in all its multifaceted glory when we are supposed to stay quiet and keep it down.
Q: HOW TO HAVE A SILENT T PARTY?
A: HOWEVER YOU WANT IT! (see below)
While the Congress deserves a wholehearted thank you and a sincere pat on the back for passing the long overdue Matthew Shepard Act and finally getting to ENDA (which has floated around the Capitol since the late 1970s), our transgender and gender-variant family members should not be shut out and left behind!
None are safe until all are safe.
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
Now, pass the tea!
WHERE: your dorm room, kitchen, fave coffeeshop, church basement, community center, office watercooler area, an arena/stadium of your choice, wherever allies can gather in solidarity
WHEN: a.s.a.p. and all the way up to the Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20. Time to gather sTEAm!
WHO: you and yours, plus invite profs, elected officials, celebs, all
WHAT: circulate a petition to Congress (don't forget to send it in), hold Gender 101 teach-in, filmscreen or screenprint, raise money for local acTive groups, have a great time, inform the media
WHY: 'cause this cause is just and it's just fun!
