Safe Home Volunteers needed

The Network/La Red: Ending abuse in lesbian bisexual women's and transgender communities’s Safe Home Network is a network of volunteer homes that addresses the needs of lesbian, bisexual women, and transgender folks fleeing abusive partners.

Safe Homes provide 1-14 nights stay to allow L/B/T folks breathing space and time in order to develop the best plan for where to go next. For some, that plan is to find long-term shelter, for others it is to move into permanent housing, and for still others it is to return home. The time provided by safe home stay allows guests the space, support and power to decide what's best for them.

Whether it be a spare room, an extra bed, a sleeper sofa for a single person or a someone with 5 kids whatever space you can volunteer will be a safe haven for a someone fleeing abuse. Wheelchair-accessible and deleaded spaces as well as those able to accept pets are especially needed. We are flexible with the length of time you can make your home available.

All volunteers of the Network must participate in our free training program. Aside from discussing the dynamics of LGBT domestic violence, the training covers issues such as oppression, crisis intervention, and counseling skills. The Network provides supervision, support, and a stipend for safe home providers. For more information or for a volunteer
application please call 617-695-0877 or email safehome@thenetworklared.org.
