Eyes Are on Gainesville Florida

transTomorrow the people of Gainesville Florida will decide whether or not sexual orientation and gender identity should remain on the human rights ordinance. The fate of many LGBTQI people rests on this vote. Sadly, it should not have come to this.
I have followed this issue for a while. What has irked me is that transgender people are portrayed as predators and perverts. This is a comment that I will NOT be silent about. If this law passes, men and women can be fired from their jobs, denied housing and medical care simpy because of who they are. Fear tactics are being used to distort and confuse rational thinking into voting for an ordinance which will den a group of people from the same rights as anyone else.
There's the saying that if a group of people are denied their equality, it won't be long before lawmakers, right wing bigots, and transphobic-homophobic populations will deny someone else their rights because of their religion, gender, skin color or class. It's nothing new however.
I pose a question; who are they to decide who should or should not be able to live a productive and happy life? Who are they to say that because we don't represent their idea of gender and sexual conformity we don't deserve to live? These are the same kind of people who have startd wars in other lands under the guise of freedom and democracy. These people could give a darn about democracy. As long as their little nirvana isn't disturbed, people could die in the
streets from starvation and exposure. A question that comes to mind is if any of these anti-lgbt folks have a relative who's transgender, gay, lesbian, or bisexual? Maybe some do but are in denial.
I pray tomorrow good and upstanding people will see the blatant distortions and lies being told about LGBTQQI people. I pray that sexual orientation and gender identity will remain on the books. Many lives depend upon it.
