Opinion on advertising to Transgender
May. 18th, 2009 02:08 pmHello! I've observed in the shadows never really posting as i have not had much to say but a questions was posed to me the other day that i shall pose to you guys and hope you can help!
I'm a bi Female in Advertising and have very close friends that are MTF trans. While i'll ask them the same.. i wanted to ask you guys your thoughts on the following:
I was approached by a plastic surgeon wanting to make sure the Trans community in our area is aware of their services (plastic surgery, laser Hair, etc...) and that they are aware of the community and want to help. Question is... do you think advertising directly to transgender is necessary? I've always just felt like we are all people and never had to think about what makes us different in the way of advertising directly to trans verses just advertising becuase what i like in a surgeon... i would think any one would like... advertising to men and women seems enough as i would imagine... as trans... just because you may be mid gender doesnt mean you dont identify with one already advertised.
i tend to have colleagues who make jokes out of everything and i am imagining they will come back with ideas like having a hot woman on TV and then she answers the phone with a DEEP voice...as a shock value joke... but i wouldn't imagine that would go over well.... and i don't think those things are funny.... So i want to get any thoughts you guys have on what kind things would draw you in to see a plastic surgeon or laser hair specialist... transgender related or not...
I would imagine confidentiality, care and understanding would be good starts but how to target the Trans community specifically – i'm stumped.
Any help would be great and thanks.
Selena
