Yet Another Introduction

transHello everyone! I'm an MtF transsexual, 8 years post-op. Came out to my parents and siblings 17 years ago, which nearly ripped us apart (including requests for me to kill myself), but we're more or less back to the loving dysfunctional family prior to my coming out (so there is hope for those of you having rough times with families).
Mostly passing, but I don't freak out if someone recognizes that I'm trans. Dating is a problem because I'm not overly fond of the kind of guy who is into transsexuals. I tend not to tell too many people I'm TS; once the word gets out I feel like an animal in a petting zoo with three-year-olds pulling my ears and biting my tail.
PhD in bioinformatics trying to direct my career path away from becoming a principal investigator (there's more to life than research). Politically active in preserving the law that legalizes same-sex marriage in the state of Maine and in establishing health care in this country.
I live with two fun-loving cats who dream of taking down a deer. I enjoy the outdoors an am something of a science fiction nut. I consider myself a gamer, but am not part of any gaming group at the moment. I enjoy cycling, but still have issues of riding on the street after a friend was struck from behind and killed a few years back.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself so no one wonders, "who the heck is this," if I comment on a post.
