transA petition has been created on the "Number10" website regarding the lack of legal recognition for those who do not identify as male or female and wish to be recognised correctly as being something else. It would be greatly appreciated if everybody who is a British citizen or resident, be you binary or non-binary, cis or trans would sign in support of this. Thanks!
"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to end the systematic erasure of those who do not exist within the artificial binary of male and female.
"Current legislation forces people to be regarded as male or female. Some people live outside of these binary categories and their lives are made difficult by having to constantly explain to people that their gender differs from that recorded in government databases. Far from giving these people confidentiality, incorrectly recording their gender results in them having to constantly fight for recognition & sends the message to the rest of society that it is ok to misgender these people. This causes gender dysphoria which nobody should have to endure in order to maintain employment, access medical care and live without harassment.
"Consequently we regard labelling non-binary people as M or F to be unnecessary disclose of their assigned gender. We do not feel that issues in altering legislation that currently reinforces an artificial binary justifies systematic erasure of people's identities and the lives they lead.
"We call for the creation of an 'other' option in addition to M and F."
The wording of this petition has been chosen partly in response to the Prime Minister's Office's response to a similar petition created two years ago.
While you're there I'd also urge you to sign up in support of We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to support and "STOP Trans Pathologization"
