new community.
Aug. 11th, 2001 04:32 pmgenderoutlaws is a community for those who identify as transexual, transgendered, gender variant, intersexed, genderqueer etc. (and allies) who are committed to radical politics, action, thinking and a global perspective.
we can talk about multiple marginalization, the issues/problems facing trans (to use an umbrella term) communities, the state of trans activism, transphobia and/or transexclusion within radical/revolutionary movements (and indeed other -isms within these movements), building strong grassroots movements. transgender communities outside of the white, western mold etc.
or just post anything else, fun posts, interesting stories etc. in a space designed to be free of ableism, sizism, sexism, racism, classism, transphobia, homophobia etc.
(this community was inspired by unpleasant encounters with sexism/anti-woman behaviour by transboys. it is not designed to demonize us as trans people, who are no more sexist than the rest of society and no less subject to a woman-hating culture, but as a reminder to us, that we should all strive to keep in mind that our oppression as transgendered/genderqueer/gender-variant individuals does not excuse us from engaging in oppressive behaviour.)
