Does anyone know what where the UK law stands on transphobic abuse?

I have been getting trouble from a couple of individuals in particular for about six months maybe, until yesterday. They got onto the same bus as me and started off with their usual name calling as well as throwing old bus tickets at me. When I complained to the bus driver they protested their innocence, as I would have expected, but when they realised that the driver and other passengers didn't believe a word they were saying they threatened me, saying they would be round to my flat later. 20 minutes they were round, ringing the doorbell and knocking on the window. When I didn't answer they shouted "you are dead!" through my letterbox. By this point I had already told relatives what was happening, and when I was threatened at my flat I got the police involved, but they said that there wasn't much they could do.

I am pretty terrified, especially as today is Black-eye Friday (The one day in the year when violent crime goes out of control in Carlisle) and I am living on my own.
