Cry for help! -- x-posted, sorry!
Apr. 27th, 2004 06:50 pmHey folks,
My colleagues (ha! i.e. fellow poor students) have posted a few times about a groundbreaking conference we are organizing to explore the intersections between the transgender and feminist movements, "The Trans-Forming Feminism Conference." There are many obvious and not so obvious benefits to a conference like this, not the least of which include working towards total gender acceptance, a breakdown of negative views of transwomen by feminists for "upholding" "negative" gender roles, and involving non trans-men and trans-men alike in feminism to the fullest extent, as well as opening up people's minds to the concept of ambiguous gender identity. But since we go to a state school, and its the end of the school year, there is less money left in the student association's programming budget than we need for all our amazing presenters (who have already dropped typical fees for us in many cases!) to come do workshops, for us to print programs and fliers and advertise in other ways, and for all the other ins and outs of organizing a conference. Long story short-- If you are a person with a little spare cash lying around, even one or two dollars would help tremendously if enough of you donate, and if you've got more than $1 or $2, we're looking at an approximately $1500 deficit (another college in our area has graciously donated $500 and we cut as many costs as possible) so whatever you can afford to send us would be absolutely amazing. So if you can afford to help us out a little bit, comment here and i'll get you info about sending us money.
And if you have an idea of another way you can help us... perhaps you have access to cheap/free supplies or something, who knows, just let me know...
All of you help and consideration is sooo graciously appreciated i wouldn't be able to express it in words. We're determined to make this conference happen, and we've got 2 weeks. So yeah. Ha. Ok. Thanks!
