"The aim of this paper is to elucidate the reader on how interchangeable bodies are, and what amazing tools of alchemy are available to all those who wish to change their identity through changing their body."

as a super femme lady, it was interesting to write a paper on the process and particularly the hormone uses/functions/changes that occur during transistion.
if anyone is interested, i have a copy of the paper.
this isn't written from a trans perspective, but from a feminist perspective. i tried to use inclusive language and presented this in a "round table health talk" to classmates, some of whom knew NOTHING about this topic.
in doing research and forcing myself to examine all elements that made me uncomfortable, i feel like i've become even more articulate in being able to support the transgender community.

i'd love to dialogue with individuals who also opt for alternative body modifications (tattoos, peircings) and how this reflects gender/sex/class -- this is a practice i engage in, and love talking about it!

rock on, lovelies.

p.s i also included a "choose yr own gender (adventure!)" little booklet thing to help the class to start thinking about our bodies and the way we define our parts/sexuality/insides -- there's more than two options!

I am thinking about my semester project (woo! http://www.shimer.edu) and so far the only idea that sticks out is an analysis (critique?) of the Standards of Care. I would like to interview folk in the Chicago area about what they think of the SOC, where they are with regards to the SOC, and where they feel they are with regards to their own path. Is this too ambitious? Is the idea too broad? The paper is suppose to have about 40 hours of work in it, and we have a whole week at the end of the semester to do/finish it. I would start much sooner. I dunno, just wanted to get some feedback on this idea. Thanks =]
