Hello All,

I ended up at the emergency room yesterday for chest pain, apparently due to some inflammation from my top surgery 8 weeks ago. I was super nervous about going to the ER and not my regular doctor, explaining that yes I am a guy, and yes I had a double mastectomy 8 weeks ago. I've heard and read so many horror stories about poor healthcare for trans and genderqueer folks, especially in the ER, so I just wanted to share with everybody that despite my fears, I received excellent care from a very understanding and supportive group of people. They really surprised and impressed me. It was nice to not have to worry about gender, and just focus on why I was there. For anyone interested in the long version, it can be found in my journal here. (Was friends only, but I'll unlock it for now in case anybody wants to read.) FYI, for those in the Denver metro area, this was at Swedish Hospital.

Ok, I emailed a couple of local therapists and two have responded:

Dear ChrisTINA,
Thanks for your e-mail and interest in gender information. I
would be happy to see you..I see people for $150.00 for l l/2 hour. I do not
take insurance directly but can give you a receipt with a mental health code
that they may reimburse a percentage directly to you. I have offices in
Coral Gables and Hollywood. The other option is Dr. Carol Clark in North
Miami who may take insurance and she also has a group for TG/CD's..Her
number is XXX-XXX-XXXX...I think it is VERY good to see someone who
specializes in this field as well as a support group for you and your S.O.
when you choose to disclose.
Blessings, Dr. Marilyn Volker, Sexologist,
American Board of Sexology and American Academy of Clinical Sexologists

and

Hello,
Thank you for writing!
The best way to find out more about me is to go to my web site at www.SexHelpSolutions.com. I have an office in Davie and I work out of my home in Miami Shores. I also do phone counseling with TGs around the country, which is working out very well.
At this time, I don't take Aetna insurance, but I do have a sliding scale to help folks out. Paying privately keeps things completely confidential, which you indicated is a concern. All of my files are completely private. Of course my home is private and even in my office, the secretary does not have access to my files.
Your concerns are ones that I typically work with. If you would like to make an appointment, give me a call at XXX-XXX-XXXX. My voicemail is also completely confidential.
I'll look forward to hearing from you.
Carol Clark

So, anyone got any info on either from a personal point of view?

As you can probably guess, I'm back for advice and help. Remind me to actually respond this time. .

Order of operations? *no pun intended.* )

I think that was badly-written enough. Wouldn't you agree? . . for an awkward closing sentance, why is it that some trans-people would call themself both a, say, male-to-female and a crossdresser? Or am I thinking to binary? =P

Anywho, thanks for any help in advance. Take care. ^^

Ally.
