I have noticed a lot of disagreement in this community as of late about the terms we use. I'm in an LGBT class and our professor talked about the problems caused by not having concretely defined terms and I see these problems mirrored in this community.

One of our assigned readings is Susan Bunting's Glossary of Human Sexuality. I thought you people would be interested in hearing how she defines certain terms and how some people dictionaries do (yes, I'm lame and mostly used dictionary.com!)

very long rant on definitions )

Anyway, I think you get my point. It seems to me we have people with no particular connection to the LGBT community writing definitions for who we are. There are even variations on definitons between members in our own community - I, for example, don't agree with all the definitions listed here. This whole post was basically a rant brewing in my head during class today, and I thought you guys would be an appropriate audience to listen. Hope you guys find the topic interesting and add your own 2 cents!

why is it that transexuals that opt for srs have no undersatnding for tg's like myself who choose to live as femme without wanting to have sex reassignment? I mean theres a broad spectrum out there ranging from cross dressers, transvestites, drag, tg's and transexuals and hopefully we all find a place where we are happy with who we are and if that is for instance where i am ( a genatic male on hormones and living as female with no plan for srs) then who cares?...try and be happy for people who are happy with who they are...just because i dont want a vagina, dosent mean that i'm insane or that i dont identify as female...love Shannon

A story

I thought I'd share a story someone told me today. (x-posted to intersexed)

I was informed by a coworker (person A) who is aware of my being intersexed that someone else (person B) at work was inquiring as to my sexual orientation based on how I act. The person B asked "I dun understand him... he acts all male a lot of the time, but then he talks to you and all the other girls, and... I don't know, there's just something different. Is he gay? Or does he at least have a medical condition? There's something different about him."

Fortunately, person A has known about me for at least a year if not longer and is a great friend of mine, and she and I have had a lot of fun with playing with people's minds at work from time to time. She laughed at B's question and grinning, said "No, he's not gay...really... though I don't think he'd mind my telling you he has a medical condition." B was slightly shocked and I'm told had a priceless expression on his face upon hearing this. "That explains a LOT!", said B, who then went on to explain to A about an intersexed friend he knew in school who would show off his female parts in the gym showers, with abandon and pride. Person B did come back to the point of not making a deal of this at work and treating the issue with the respect it deserves (though we're going to play with another friend of ours at work who swears he can "smell hermaphrodite on a person" just because). He'll be fine, not to worry. I just thought it was an interesting turn of events to happen at work on my day off.

Thoughts, anyone?

Alright, I went to the doctors today for a regular check up. The obgyn kind. Everything is fine, but the doctor was worried about my lack of menstrating. I've been on T for about 2 years, and have never had any problems, nor do I now.
The doc has not had nor currently does have any other trans patients, that I know of. I live in a very small, secluded town, where everyone knows everyone. Doc is very understanding, very nice, but, with the lack of other patients, and being at the mercy of Internet or medical journals for assistance, thought it'd be a good idea to ask ya'll.
I guess I just want to hear some feedback about guys who may have thought about this, or do have "scheduled menstrations", or how this would even work. Any feedback is good feedback. Thanks.

I started a new TG goth community, called [livejournal.com profile] transgothic (I know, so original). I guess I missed the old one, and never understood why it was deleted. So, if anyone feels like joining, please do.

Okay you try being a marketing genius this late...
