I am interning for the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force this summer and am seriously in need of affordable summer housing (preferably in or near Dupont Circle). I'm busily combing through listings without much luck -- and once I find anything available I need to worry about finding a roommate or roommates who are queer- & trans-friendly. Having looked at CityPaper, the Post, the Blade and Craigslist, any further pointers would be appreciated.

Thoughts?

A friend of mine sent me this combo abdomen image some time ago, I was wondering if anyone could tell me where it's from so I could read more about it? Gonna crosspost this one just in case anyone has info.

I have just been through the hassle of trying to get my University degree certificate reissued in my name. It's quite frankly embarressing at jobs where I've had to show it along with my Deed Poll to prove it is actually mine. Unfortunately that also proves I'm trans.

So today I took it down with the letter from RR, my psychiatrist, and the Deed Poll. Well, you might have thought I was asking fro Heaven and Earth to be moved at first.

"No. It is University Policy not to reissue them. You will just have to show people your Deed Poll"

Grrr! If the government has changed my identity, and secured my details from prying eyes, and the NHS has done the same too what is the problem? Howcome other organisations have no problem? So I explained that this was not practical given the circumstances, and drew attention to RR's letter.

So they ummed, and ahed, and she went into the back office to have a heated debate with the people in there. Eventually my cajoling paid off and they said they would make an exception and reissue it because of the unusual circumstances.

But what a faff! I guess I'm the first University of Durham graduate to ask for their certificate to be reissued after being awarded it. Other TS peeps I know at the University have the luxury of having the name change before they sit the exams, so their new name goes on from the start. But there must be lots of former Durham peeps over time who are ts. It makes me wonder.

What's the official line on changing education certificates? What have others done?

It should arrive in a couple of days - I'm going to get it framed and put on the wall for the first time since I got it in 2000. Up until now I've never wanted to put my qualifications where they can be seen, but now it's going to say 'Jennifer Emily' on it I think I'll make an exception with this one.

Finally: anyone know how I get GCSE and A-level certificates changed? What about post education qualifications: I am CPC National qualified too, and there's a certificate to prove that.

I've been shopping for binders for a while, but I must admit that my knowledge on this subject is limited to Ace bandages. The following products have been recommended to me:

http://www.underworks.com/983.html
http://www.underworks.com/990.html
http://www.underworks.com/996.html

Any of y'all know if and which of these products is the best? And, most importantly, how I can figure out which is the best size for my body frame?

Any help will be much appreciated.

so, hi. i'm new to this community so i thought i'd introduce myself. i'm 18 years old and i'm from columbus, ohio. recently i finally stopped lying to myself and i've admitted that i'm transgendered and bisexual. i'm slowly getting used to this whole thing, but i haven't told anyone yet. right now i just want to figure things out, make sure i'm not just making a fool of myself, and then i'll tell someone offline. since i know alot of you have already gone through this, i'd like if someone wouldn't mind actually talking to me. maybe letting me vent and help me understand a few things. anyway, if you want to know more, just ask.

Here's a community I just started for those who test, play or push the limits of gender boundaries in their gender expression, identity, and/or social role. People of all sexes, genders, and sexual orientations are welcomed -- [livejournal.com profile] genderfuckers
