In my school, we have to do an exhibition, or a final project each quarter for whatever morning class we happen to be in. Last quarter, mine was Race and Gender in American History, and we had free reign to choose whatever topics we wanted, and I thought it was a perfect example to educate my already liberal school on some of the basics of transsexuality.

What I've noticed is, people have absolutely no conception that FtM transsexuals exist. I couldn't go three minutes in my lecture without someone interrupting me with a question about this or that (not something I mind), but in the gajjilion of questions that I got, not one of them dealt with FtMs. It seems to be completly out of the popular awareness.

After the presentation (which I gave twice), I got a lot of curious students who hadn't attended come up to me to ask various questions and quite a few discussions between students popped up on the subject. Again, no one seems to be aware that you can get sex changes both ways. I've honestly been baffled over this, and it's a little sad to see that we're so focused on the male that we even give more attention to them when they're getting a sex change so that they're not male anymore.

I think I stressed the point enough in my presentation, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference. Actually, I'm also saddened to see that the presentation didn't seem to have any affect in other areas anyway, the popular consensus in the school remains "What do you mean she's a guy????"

Ugh. It's an odd world we live in.

Looks like my boyfriend and I (one cute gay boy and one cute gay (ftm) boy) may be moving around june 20th. We'll be taking the route from phoenix to seattle, and cutting through california on the way. I was hoping that someone had a couch or floor or something we could bed on for a night somewhere around LA. We are poor college students and renting the Uhaul is about all we can afford at the moment, if we could cut this hotel stay out of our way that'd be awesome!

June 21st or 22nd a place for 2 adults to stay somewhere near LA.

I know it's sort of odd, but if you could lend us a couch/floor/garage/whatever please drop me an e-mail.

This is quite UK specific, but I'm not getting much feedback from [livejournal.com profile] tguk so I thought I'd try here too.

The UK LGBT campaign School's Out! (organisers of February's LGBT History Month) are working with London's LGBT hate crime charity Galop (www.galop.org.uk) and the Metropolitan Police on a project for the Home Office to discover what LGBT people in England and Wales think the police need to know about our communities.

The organisers are holding focus group around the country so LGBT people can have their say and influence the way the LGB and T communities are policed.

I am attending a focus group tomorrow, and I want to have as many views as possible to represent. So here's your chance to make your voices heard - what do you think the police need to know about the trans community, dealing with trans people, employing trans people etc etc ...

Does anyone have a link to a good (and reliable source) site explaining the effects of HRT? Such as the effect of Estrogen on male bodies, and the effect of testosterone on female bodies?
