Happy Independence Day to the United States of America. We ain't to independent these days as more and more people on all sides keep trying to take away rights and privileges that they alone think that their god gave to only them. If that isn’t bad enough the President has seen fit a while back to easily suspend the right of habeas corpus in an event of a national emergency. Not too many people know about this just like the unwarranted spying on Americans that this paranoid leader and his religious cronies have done since 9-11.

Sure we have a great country but I tell ya that there are some people here that just won’t ever get it. That is that your religion is fine as long as you keep it to yourselves. Evangelicals can’t do that, it ain't in their programming. Yes, programming. I am a firm believer that over-zealous religions do, without really thinking about it, brainwash their followers. Moonies did it back in the seventies and yes they are still here today, The Unification Church. That’s right, the same bunch of overweight, lost, weirdo’s that used to mob you at airports and parking lots thirty years ago.
I am not too fucking happy with my country these days, with all the hate, misplaced religious convictions, and other assorted bullshit floating around it is really hard to like this place. But I know that it could be a whole lot worse and thank the almightiness that it isn’t. Hopefully the smart people in this country will take it back from the morons that hijacked it almost thirty years ago. Conservatives may be alright on some money issues as long as religion doesn’t get in the way but on social issues they absolutely suck balls. They are hopelessly stuck to this idea that it is the fifties and there is but only one way to live. Fuck that and fuck them.
My therapist told me what I already knew years ago that I was independent and sovereign. I wasn’t quite sure of the last one until then but it does make sense and I hope that everyone would get that way. I have always done things, my own way, in my own time, and did most of them alone. I don’t regret any of them either. I never cottoned to anyone else’s drumbeat and I hope I never will.
I declared my independence from living a lie, three years ago this date in the back of my pickup truck while watching fireworks with my eighty year old neighbor and his wife. She didn’t know what a transsexual was but Larry sure did and they didn’t mind a bit. They were my first allies. I hope and pray that anyone reading this today will look at their lives and if they need some adjusting, then by all means do it and don’t let anyone or anything else sway you in a different direction from the one that you truly feel you much go.
