 Howdy howdy howdy.

I recently relocated to Fort Myers, Florida.  It was definitely an adventure and much needed fresh start, unfortunately there were sacrifices.  I had to leave my therapist behind.  I've known her for probably over a decade and it was refreshing to have someone whom I trusted completely and was totally open with.  She was very supportive of LGBT issues and is the one who has diagnosed me.

I also left behind the medical doctor.  That, I have mixed feelings about.  She was supposedly "The" gender doctor in the area but I won't miss her.  Horrible manners, quick to judge, et cetera.

Unfortunately, that leaves me a bit high and dry in the professional support area (I have local friends for the personal support).

Is anyone in here familiar with TG services in the Southern Florida area?  I have no qualm traveling up to Tampa or even over to Miami or Orlando if I have to.  I'm definitely looking for a medical doctor for hormone prescription and possibly a therapist for unloading emotional baggage.

A moderate amount of Google resulted in a few support groups but I wanted to check her for personal recommendations.

Also, hi there!  I have a Tumblr detailing my transition.  I had to take a break from my TG life to sort out other personal disasters but I should be much more contributive in the next week or so. :)

Some scientists have been finding differences between MRI scans of FtM people (without hormone treatment) and non-FtMs. Here is the link: http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn20032-transsexual-differences-caught-on-brain-scan.html

"They found significant differences between male and female brains in four regions of white matter – and the female-to-male transsexual people had white matter in these regions that resembled a male brain (Journal of Psychiatric Research, DOI: 10.1016/j.jpsychires.2010.05.006). "It's the first time it has been shown that the brains of female-to-male transsexual people are masculinised," Guillamon says."

I'm thinking this is one of those things that could be good or bad, depending on who does what with it and what assumptions the people doing the studies are making. But I don't know that much about it. I do think this is much better than depending on genetic make-up. However, I am leery of how this is going to work. It may be helpful for FtM kids, but what about kids who just don't fit the binary and have no medical reason for it?

Does anyone else have any info on this? Thoughts?
