Here's an excellent response to the WBW t-shirt thing from last week. Ida even makes a case for trans womyn reclaiming WBW based on its origins.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to participate in this discussion as I'm leaving for Camp Trans in Michigan later this evening and won't return until Aug 1st. But I wanted to throw this up for others who are interested in this topic and breaking down cis only spaces.

I really hate it when describing a transgender female, the general public or the press might just say that person "was born a man".

Really?

I don't know anybody that was born a man.

Person 1: "Did you hear? Jenny had a baby!"
Person 2: "Oh, is it a boy or a girl?"
Person 1: "It's a man!"

Everybody I know were born as babies with no gender identity developed yet. Some physically male, some physically female, some physically ambiguous.

I realize I'm preaching to the choir by posting it in this LJ "transgender" community, but saying some MTF was "born a man" is not only insulting... it's extremely ignorant.
