[identity profile] sarianna.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] trans
Hi everyone! My name's Andrea, and I'm writing a paper for my college English course on transfolk, transition, and discrimination. (I do have a bit of personal interest here, as my gf has recently decided she'd be happier presenting as female...and I have a lot of trans friends. =) ) I was hoping that some transfolk here (primarily those who are transitioning/have transitioned) would be willing to answer a few questions as an interview so I can get personal perspectives. I originally posed a version of these questions to [livejournal.com profile] dietcokeboy (who did an incredible job answering!) and [livejournal.com profile] sermoa liked it so much that she answered them too! If you've got a minute, please take a look, and if you've got two, please answer! I'd be happy to use pseudonyms if requested, or not to quote you in the paper if you prefer.

1. When did you first become aware of gender? What did transgressing gender norms mean for you in terms of relating to others? How did you feel? What does being trans mean to you?

2. Do you feel that there is a real community for transfolk (in the real world and/or online)? What issues are of most concern to you?

3. Although gender and sexuality are distinct, they can be related. How has your sexual orientation changed as your view of your gender has changed? Would you consider dating or have you dated another transperson? Do you see this as a "way out" at all--so you don't have to deal with the average Joe/Jane?

4. Have you had any experiences of discrimination because you are trans? Has anyone ever threatened/hurt you? Bathroom horror stories? Lack of support--even animosity--from family/friends? Do you feel that as an FTM/MTF/other you are (subjectively) more or less at risk of discrimination/not passing?

5. Is there anything in particular you'd like the world to know about you and/or the transgender world?

Thanks, everyone! Have an awesome day!
