I have found in my time that "transgender" is itself identified differently by many people. For some it is highly political, others see it as a personal feeling and indentification, still others see it as more universal than most would accept- that we are all in some ways pushing towards a transgendered center.

I once had two classmates quietly infuriated by my audacity to contemplate IDing as transgendered.... my hair wasn't a half-inch long, I wasn't wearing BVD's. I wasn't them. In short, they held great store in the solace they found in "transgendered" and did not want it tainted or diluted by any outsider as they saw me. And I looked across the room at them (they had AWESOME minds and I loved listening to them).... and had to stop and appreciate their viewpoint.

but I still didn't agree for me. I like spreading it about... making gender seem more maliable, universal silly putty.

and so I ask- what do you see when you say transgendered?
