I know I am a little late, but I just wanted to say this quick...
The other day Kris and I were talking...lately our group of friends has been trying to encourage her to start "Krystal-izing" as we like to refer to it...it seems to make her so happy, being dressed up...but she admitted to us that it made her more than a little nervous. I have to admit that I don't blame her...the risk is very real and lives are quite literally at stake here. Unfortunately, how good a person is on the inside does not dictate how well they are treated due to their outward appearance. I don't blame anyone who is nervous, or downright terrified, to expose themselves to that risk of public ridicule, the potential for assault, and even death...
However, the very minute you allow your actions to be stilled by the hate of others, you let them win. I ask all of you to take time, to read the stories, or at least look at the pictures of those who have been lost to this cause...If you hide who you are because of it, then their deaths are in vain, and the hatred and ignorance of their killers is not only allowed to continue, but it is rewarded. For that is what they want...they want to scare all of you into hiding, to cover up your true selves, soley so that they do not have to acknowledge your existance...so that they can say, see, we were right and we have righted a true evil in this world...but this is not what those lost to us would have wanted...This would be almost a justification of their most unjust of deaths. They dared to be themselves, despite the fact that they knew the risk...and they would not want to see their brethren hide in the shadows as though they were less than worthy of the same recognition as humans that even those most vile of creatures who hunt you are now receiving. You can never know who you are and how well loved you may be if you hide your true self. That will only show you that people can accept someone else...a false image...someone who is not truly you. Remember, true courage is not in being unafraid, but in acting despite the presence of the ultimate fear. So I am going to ask you now, in the face of this great fear, to act. Do not hide in the shadows, do not let them win. Teach the world that you are who you are...and that that is okay. If you cannot do it for yourself, do it for those who have risked being, and, indeed, become, the ultimate sacrifice for you. Do not let these poor, brave souls die in vain. I do not ask you to save the whole globe, just to be yourselves...and show others where the true "wrong" in this situation is.
