Some news of a woman with ts who recently took her own life.

She was four or five years older than myself.

Folks, I know that lots of us think about this stuff, some of us have
tried

and some of us plan it.

If you ever think of doing something similar,

I want you to realise just how wide the ripples travel.

yeah? - and they are not good ripples.

They are not hopeful ripples - they are loss and sadness.

Claire's story had a very sad ending.

What's left is to do - is to witness this stuff and look to

making the future better for the kids who are coming after us.

Dear All

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you all of the
passing of

Claire Rothschild at the Monash Medical Centre, 17.45 this
evening.

Claire was a recent arrival in Melbourne from Western
Australia.

She was a bright, even vivacious, woman not yet quite 40
years

old. She had been living in role for some time and was
desperate

for surgery to rectify the ambiguity between her sexual
identity

and the phenotypic sex she was born with.

She spoke to me just before Christmas of her fears that
the

recent adverse publicity to sexual affirmation surgeries.

It appears these fears and the rejection she had suffered at
the

hands of those she loved became too much to bear. A few days
ago,

she took matters into her own hands and was subsequently

placed on life-support at Monash.

She did not regain consciousness.

It must be part of the task of this list [RE: [w_o_m_a_n] ] to
highlight

the

consequences (the very real consequences) of reducing what few

services there are to people who experience transsexualism.
Senator

Lyn Allyson called for an inquiry into Sex Reassignment Surgery
in

Australia in the wake of Alan Finch... I wonder if the good
senator

will now call for an inquiry into the premature deaths of those of
us

who cannot fight anymore, and who are fearful of not being able
to

access what is to many of us a life saving operation...

But I doubt Senator Allyson will have ever heard the name of
Claire Rothschild or how she resolved her conflict..

Kathryn

About the same age as Claire....

Our chief want is someone who will inspire us to be what we know we
could be.
