Media Activism Training
Message Development 101:  Transgender Representations in the Media

We would like to invite you to a media training for the transgender community on
SATURDAY, MAY 1, 2004, from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M at the Bienestar offices in
Hollywood.

The transgender community faces many external challenges, not the least of which
is invisibility and misrepresentation in the media.  This media training is
designed to provide the knowledge and skills to effectively communicate with
television, print, and radio through press releases, interviews, and pre- and
post-event reporting.
With the increasing appearance of transgender issues in news and entertainment,
there is a need to understand how to effectively engage and access the media as
well as empower the transgender community to become their own media advocates.

This interactive and educational workshop will incorporate multimedia and group
activities which involve identifying defamation against the transgender
community, preparing press kits, writing letters to the editor, creating press
releases, developing talking points and general media messaging.  The workshop
will also cover how to promote upcoming events and the best approaches for
attracting media attention.

If you are interested, please R.S.V.P. To Eddie Gutierrez, GLAAD's Southwest
Regional Media Manager, at gutierrez@glaad.org, or Alexander Yoo
at alextsuname@earthlink.net/(323) 633-6639.

Thank you and hope to see you there,

Alexander and Eddie
