Last Chance: Transsexual Sexuality Study
Apr. 21st, 2004 08:18 pmHey everyone - I just wanted to let you know that this is your last chance to participate in the Transsexual Sexuality Study I am conducting. The survey will only be online through Friday, so make sure you take it in the next few days.
Who is eligible to participate?
-You must be at least 18 years of age.
-You must have been undergoing hormone therapy for AT LEAST 6 MONTHS.
-You must be comfortable answering personal questions relating to your body and your sexual practices.
ALL RESULTS ARE ANONYMOUS.
Why are we conducting this study?
Very little research has been conducted outside of a clinical setting regarding sexuality and sexual practices of trans people...particulary whether these practices and identities tend to change after people begin hormone therapy. We plan to add to the body of research and challenge some assumptions that people have regarding this topic.
Who is conducting this study?
This study is being conducted as part of an Advanced Sexuality Studies tutorial at Ithaca College, with tentative plans to seek publication of an article discussing the results.
The primary investigator, Braeden Sullivan, is a senior majoring in Organizational Communication, Learning and Design, with minors in Sociology and Legal Studies. He has taken numerous courses relating to the study of gender and sexuality in the Sociology, Politics, and Psychology departments, including a previous independent study specifically regarding transsexuality. As a transsexual himself, Sullivan is intimately familiar with the subject matter at hand.
Dr. Rebecca Plante, the faculty sponsor, has a doctorate in Sociology from SUNY-Stony Brook, with a graduate certificate in Women’s Studies. Her research and teaching focuses on sexualities and gender, including a prize-winning paper on surgery for male-to-female transsexual persons.
If you are interested in participating, please click on the following link, which will take you to a consent form: http://www.ithaca.edu/students/bsulliv1
