World AIDS Day

The community will observe World AIDS day on December 1, 2004 at 7 p.m.
at the International Institute. Wellness HIV/AIDS Services, Woodside
Church, Planned Parenthood, UM - Flint LGBT Center, Mott College Gay
Straight Alliance, TransGender Michigan, and PFLAG will come together to
sponsor the evenings program. The related themes for the program are
Women & HIV/AIDS and HIV/AIDS Prejudice. The evening will begin with an
educational presentation by TransGender Michigan on HIV Prejudice,
followed by a presentation on Current Legislation by Planned Parenthood
of East Central Michigan. After a short break, during which people may
browse displays by these and other agencies, there will be a memorial
service for those who have lost loved ones to the disease. Highlights of
the service include the Gospel In Motion Praise Dancers, winners of the
Job Corps Student poetry slam, and testimonies by those affected by or
living with HIV/AIDS. After the service a reception hosted by
Connection, Woodside's LGBT group, and catered by Good Beans Café will
provide an opportunity for people to socialize together.
Other events in the community celebration will be held throughout the
week. A panel of the National AIDS quilt will be on display at Woodside
Church from Sunday, November 28th until Sunday, December 17th. The
worship service at Woodside Church at 10 a.m. Sunday, November 28th will
include a commemoration of those who are living with, those who have
died, and those affected by HIV/AIDS.
Tuesday, November 30th GSA at Mott Community College hosts a program
entitled Women Affected by HIV/AIDS at 3 p.m. in the Student Life
Center. The LGBT Center at UM-Flint will show the movie The 24th Day at
6 p.m. at 365 U. Center. On Thursday, December 2nd, at 7 p.m., they will
be at Good Beans Café to show Relax, It's Just Sex.
