Hi all!

I have a question for the community about changing your name. Apparently it's a fairly simple process go down to the court house, fill out some papers, wait for a judge to see you and poof it's done in like 3 hours.

Changing my name sounds wonderful not only for the obvious self revealing reasons, but also because I'm having trouble paying for things with my debit card and getting into 18 or 21+ enviornments where they check my present ID. In short, I've had a few people simply not believe that I was the same person and refuse to let me in. My bank has told me that they will be happy to add another name to my account so long as I have official documentation -- ie a name change, and will even give me two debit cards with photos. This is nice.

So what's the problem, right? Well I still have to go to work in drag (ie dressed as a guy). It's pretty much the only place where I'm NOT living as myself due to the fact that my dad owns the company and he's the one person in my family who doesn't know. Likewise, until January I will continue to be on his insurance plan. Is changing your legal name essencially invalidating your prior one, or is it more like adding an additional one you can use? I don't think I will be able to do it if I'm obligated to inform my employeer and dad about this which is unfortunate. Otherwise I'm about ready to head up to the court house monday in the early morning, and swing by the DMV for an updated liscense photo (even if the gender hasn't been fixed yet) in the afternoon, and head out with friends in the evening.

If anyone could let me know about their experience with this sort of thing, I'd be most appreciative. FYI, I live in WA (I'm not sure if that
