Progesterone
Aug. 10th, 2005 10:28 am(my apologies for an MTF-specific question)
I've been contemplating progesterone for a while. My doctor originally wanted to put me on it but I was concerned about some of the effects -- emotional (my ex got off of depo for a reason) and physical (mild androginizing on some people). However, I had my checkup yesterday and I asked him about it. He put me on 2.5mg Provera. I didn't say anything but isn't this a really low dose? Research seems to suggest that 5-10mg/day is more common. My doctor said I'm not going to be the biggest girl in town -- that has never been my goal, my ideal would be a full B (38, hopefully I can get it down to 36). My main goal with the progesterone is to round out my boobs and make them look more natural rather than missiles.
This is month 8 of HRT -- 3 months self-medicating, 1 month off, 4 months prescribed. I am currently on 200mg spiro, 4mg estradiol and 2.5mg medroxyprogesterone. My doctor seems always concerned about me going too high (I self-medicated at 200mg spiro, 6mg estro -- he refused to prescribe that). I am pretty sure I'm his youngest trans client (he did admit that most of his clients are much older) and perhaps this has an effect. However, I don't have all that much of a choice because I kind of need the financial assistance provided by the clinic to get my meds (I was paying $10/session and $20/month of hrt, but yesterday I had to pay $35 because they changed suppliers).
Question 1: What has been your experience with progesterone? Did your boobs grow? Did you bitch at people? Did you hump the sofa leg?
Question 2: Is this 2.5mg/day too low to have much of an effect?
Question 3: Would I benefit from cycling -- taking 5mg/day for two weeks and then going off?
