Transitioning on the job
Dec. 27th, 2005 10:04 amWhat resources are available for employers new to transitioning employees? I looked at gpac.org but that may do more to obfuscate the issue than help.
What I'm hoping to find is sort of a corporate ABC123 for ts people. My boss is a friendly gay man and is pretty open to my transition, though he's never managed a transition at work before. gpac is a little too thick for what he needs at this point. Btw, I am not seeking to change my corporations policies (they already indicated it will not change until the government mandates it - they don't care if other companies have tg clauses). I just want a smooth transition.
Iin particular, I want to show him that correct pronoun usage is a must in my transition.. I'm not just changing my name and wearing appropriate clothing...this isn't a man in a dress thing. My concern is that if this isn't stressed to my coworkers when they are informed of my transition in two weeks, they may use incorrect pronouns intentionally to create a hostile work environment.
