Kiss me, I'm Transgendered Irish!
Mar. 18th, 2006 11:40 pmTomorrow is the big Saint Patrick's Day parade in Southie. I now realize that there are actually TWO reasons why I wouldn't be welcome there. The fight for a group of Irish gay/lesbians to march is well known. They have been barred on the basis of "well, if you had a civil rights march, would you allow the KKK to join?" I swear, the organizer of the parade actually said this.
And then I read that the organizer's best man at his wedding, his best bud for many years, became a leader of the local Veterans For Peace, a group that I'm also a member of. And he is denying them to march as well! Last year, they were allowed to follow a police escort at the back of the parade. This year; nothing.
I'm a lesbian transwoman and I'm a veteran opposed to the war. I think this is just more of a cue that South Boston isn't really a place I should be hanging out at. At least on St. Patty's Day.
