Question on trans parenting...

I'm looking for some good resources... maybe some of you could steer me in the right direction? Basically, I'm interested in trans parenting as viewed through the American legal system. Canadian legal system would be nice too, but not my first priority. I know that some folks manage to become parents. I'm just wondering how they accomplished it, and if they have any legal rights where their kids are concerned. I'd like to be a dad someday, so I figured I'd do my research now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
